Buying this junk from Govplanet makes that company rich. There's a reason the Army got rid of these vehicles.

That vehicle was not originally built as a M-1097, but rather a M-998. It was originally built prior to 1990 by AM General.

Nice HMMV! Ours was stripped almost bare when we got it. Doors, Roof, Brushguards and tailgate all missing. You did way better than we did. We also got our M1123 from Govplanet and it drove great...for 10 minutes. A year later we finally got all the parts needed to get it running again. critiquethis guns & more if you're interested in checking out the hell we went through. Still going through. People...beware. Getting a Humvee sitting in the desert for many years is great for being rust free but every other component on it that's rubber or plastic will eventually need to be changed. And the entire fuel system needs to be removed and cleaned.

1097s are great when they work, but almost every single one ive seen breaks pretty fast, power steering is a pos it leaks super easy. And the fueling is a nightmare its got a mechanical pump and an electric pump in the tank, good luck troubleshooting that. Transmissions are hit or miss. But, when they are fresh, they are beasts offroading.

Bought my m1152 turbo a/c overdrive truck for 6k. Govplanet stated fuel injection pump was bad. Everyone was scared of it so i got it for bottom bid. Swapped injector pump and it ran amazing. I drive it everywhere and it has been very reliable. I second changing all the fluids. Also don’t forget the geared hubs not just the diff oil.

Hey Stewie! Excellent score there! That is a great looking truck. I'm going to subscribe so I can see how your progress goes I've had mine since around 2018. After moving to Alaska I've been able to put it to work having fun. Hopefully you get a lot of off road adventures. They are good trucks - just super SLOW and honestly hard to work on to access things in the engine bay. Most things don't have nut certs in the panels so you have to get a wrench on both sides. Very hard for an army of one to do something without a helper.

In the British army vehicles that have a history of problems are sold off regardless of age. So they do have some very old reliable vehicles.

Of course the military can call it anything THEY decide to after switching some components out. This HMMWV was originally built by AM General as a M-998 prior to calendar year 1988 when the original type (most dangerous) C.A.R.C. paint was still being used. . Yes, it does look very clean and well cared for ...perhaps you can thank a "1st Lieutenant Banda" for that as this was his ride!

A M1097R1 is a M1097 brought up to M1097A1 standards. The Heavies have some beefier suspension and drivetrain components. Best thing you can do is upgrade to a 4L80E 4 speed transmission. The M1097 should already have NP242 Transfer case

@@zachwhite4997 it depends on what you want to do with it. Off road - the turbo 400 is just fine. I've stuck mine in some very tough spots and had the gear I needed. On the highway once the fan clutch kicks in (at least with a 6.2) good luck accelerating past 55 or 60 mph. But it will cruise at 55 on mostly flat ground. If all goes well we will be out this weekend hitting some hard trails and putting that 3 speed to work.

I wouldn't drive it until all the fluids are changed and everything is checked over and torque down, also, change those tires out soon, mines got punctured on the sidewall and I had to make it back on the runflat, I highly recommend the MTR puncture proof sidewall. For the headlights, there's a chance that a bad ground was causing the issues, there's ground kits that are made for this which fix all the grounding issues that the humvees are common for, for going with 12v, I recommend a 24v to 12v step down converter, I bet you'll still get 24v out of both of those studs on the battery seeing they are basically the same terminal, the ones with the stud seems like its made to hold extra accessories, typically on a deep cycle battery. The regular headlights are good enough for driving at night if you really don't want to spend the money for LEDs, I know people will disagree, but I have no problem at night with them. I can't wait to see how your humvee build goes, looking forward to it
