I honestly have a lot of respect and appreciation for Nolan on his stance of staying much more loyal to practicals instead of relying too much on CGI and digitals. One of the few people who still do that. The only CGI that was used was digitally getting rid of the wire work in the anti-gravity shots.

The actual filmmaking process behind this scene is absolutely genius O.o

this is why practical effects does wonder to films… CGI nowadays are sht. you can see the difference between the original Jurassic Park compare it with the new Jurassic World 💀 I remember watching Jurassic park as a kid. some of the scenes scared the crap out of me because it felt so real. that T-rex was top notch… now the Kurassic World franchise is just pure bs 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Is it important to do all this in camera? I don't think so, and the 99% of audience watching the movie once probably won't even realize (I didn't). But it's just so cool having a director who want's to do it just because it can be done. When you have a director like that, the action just has more *weight* to it, whether you realize how it was done or not. If you just do CGI, it's difficult to keep it tasteful, it's difficult to make the actors react properly to your CGI environment when they have a motion rig strapped to them and it's hard not to overdo it. Doing it in for real just makes me appraciate the director and the crew more and it's a good marketing for them.

To everyone just mentioning Nolan, it's actually the effort of the production design team. And somehow they are never credited enough. Everything you see assist from the actors is production design

This is awesome. I love practical effects. But I feel bad because they gave Joseph credit but not the other guy when he put in as much work in this as Joseph did. I give credits to both of them.

In a world where CGI is overdone in every movie, I love a director like Christopher Nolan who says No! “I’m gonna spin a 100 ft hallway!” “I’m gonna flip a real eighteen wheeler!” Genius!

If Nolan directed Infinity War, he would turn half of the universe to dust, wait 5 years then bring them back. PRACTICAL lol

So, I'm assuming that -- since this sequence was all done practically -- for Tenet, he filmed all those "reverse" sequences in real backwards time also? Ok, cool!

The majority of action movies: CGI yes *Meanwhile...* Chris Nolan: Hey NASA, can I borrow a ship to shoot my next movie? Tom Cruise: We don't need CGI, I'll do it myself.
