Why cant he play the banjo ??? He's in the most famous scene from the movie and he's just as poor as he was then. Not fair .

I mean I can see how they try to clear it up, but having growed up in Rabun and being familiar with the movie early on, I reckon it wasn’t done with the best interest of Appalachia people in mind. Every time I see Billy at Walmart it makes me feel happy to see him cooler than a coonhound and that he’s still doin fine.

I understand the reenactment because this is a tradegedy that the White people who governed the town is responsible for letting this happen. It is also strange how Black people want to unite with White people despite constant proof that they do not like us. Im not understanding why the Black people of this town are not pressing the government to charge the men that were involved? Do the descendents of these people that were murdered know who the descendents of the White murders are?

He worked with Burt Reynolds in a tourist cowboy theme park, illiterate and presumably leaning disabled Burt recommended him for the part.

From what I heard it was someone else who played the banjo in the video. The hands playing the banjo was hidden behind him. Is it true?

Ronny Cox is a typical elite... trying to play like they weren't making caricatures of Appalachian people. Of course they were.

I can’t believe Billy hasn’t been fairly financially compensated for his iconic role. It’s not about the contract. With the level of notoriety and money Billy’s character brought the movie, a fair and non greedy owner of the rights would have volunteered a million bucks to him in respect for Billy’s actual contribution to the film.

Yes I'm very sad. To hear people of fame used him as a prop and he got no recognition he played to part of the movie WOW!!!!...you made the movie acting in playing the banjo and when they where going down river you were on the rope bridge saying so long....all I got to say in watching the movie you were the most moving part of it all those dumb asses didn't have a clue what they opened up on an everyday person all because he look inbred what sickening thoughts your awesomeness better then all the asshole accture in the movie

Please, he was hired cause he looked like a lot of family inbreeding going on. Maybe stereotype but it was the truth for the character.

Don Imus use to call Joe Scarborough "Banjo Boy" and BR looks alot like JS. I think Imus used the comment to denigrate the white hillbilly culture of the hollers in america as well as demean JS and other southern congressmen that could have some inbreeding in their family history.

I grew up in Atlanta and now I live up in the mountains with "those people." I can tell you with 1000% confidence that mountain folk are God fearing great people that will give you the shirts off their backs. They're not the hardest working folks, but life is a little slower up here and I like it that way.

I respect and love the mountain folk of Appalachia. They are God fearing, hardscrabble working people who make do with what they have, can make and earn to buy. They don't waste much of anything and don't go to the Federal government asking for handouts and reparations.
