I try to avoid pissing contests but the criticisms are out of line, and those emphasizing his musicality are spot on. To detractors: take a Zoom lesson or two from Tuck and you'll find out how "sloppy" he is, even now in his 70's. You'll also learn that he values the impact of the music on his fans on any given night even more than the technical proficiency of that performance, though he pursues the latter with vigor as well. He has emphasized this priority in our lessons. I like the succinct description Tony McManus related to me: "Tuck Andress is a monster guitarist." For those not familiar with him, Tony McManus is considered one of the greatest Celtic guitarists in the world -- Paul Reed Smith referred to him as "the Jeff Beck of the acoustic guitar." Hence, his compliment speaks volumes. Nuff said.

Not sure if the tempo change in the chorus was intentional or not. Tuck has made a living of virtuoso sloppiness. Got a hand it to the guy.

Say what you will but Tuck's playing is awful. Clearly the man used to have talent but what happened, where did that wonderful finger picking style go ? There's something going on here but I don't know what it is.

My husband and I discovered this beautiful song by Tuck and Patti when we first fell in love and we were fortunate enough to see them performing it LIVE in Austin, TX a few months later. It still sends chills up my spine and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for posting it!

I don't think its under rehearsed, its just not his best effort on the song, it sounded like he played it a bit faster than I've heard him do it. None the less, I wish I was as 'sloppy' as some are saying as this guy. I dare any of those who are critical on performances to do it night after night perfectly, I don't care who you are, some days are diamonds some days coal.
