Every artist has their own colors and palettes that they recommend and these are mine for your foundation to build upon. Every class I teach in the "Starting Out" tier of is based on these supplies -and the "Blossoming" also utilizes them for the most part as does the "Painting Adventures" along with others. *MY WATERCOLOR SUPPLY LIST There's a certain amount of expense in gathering the art supplies needed to start but the good news is that they last a long time. If you can't budget it all right now, go for cheaper products knowing they're just for starters. The important thing is to start painting! Just to review: You'll need two water jars, glasses or cups used just for your painting. Mason jars are fun because they don't tip over easily. Paper towels are a priority with watercolor. Here is your supply list with a few comments. Watercolor paper.. First of all, you need to paint on "watercolor paper" and nothing else- not printer paper, construction or even multipurpose paper that includes watercolor in the list. I suggest you begin with 140 lb cold press watercolor paper in either a half-sheet/small size as listed below or a 9 X 12 amzn.to/48fjUOh Fyess 100% rag cotton watercolor paper, smaller size at 6 X 9 which works well for lots of paintings. This one is a current fav of mine and very reasonably priced. amzn.to/48IF6w6 Canson XL watercolor paper in 140 lb cold press. A standard for beginners and useful for many painting experiences when you're starting out or experimenting. amzn.to/3XlT9EV Patikil 100% cotton watercolor paper is a great way to stay with cotton without breaking the bank. WATERCOLOR PAINTS: I prefer tubes that you pour into your own palettes. Here are the 12 colors I recommend you start with and that I use in teaching in Patreon.com/Cindra. They are all made by Daniel Smith and these can be the most expensive investment in painting so feel free to comparison shop. If you'd rather start with a less than top of the line paint brand, that's fine too. Cotman is a pre-poured student brand but decent. Less water is very opaque. I personally dont watercolor that opaque and prefer more translucent watercolor swatches but it is good to see for those that want a gouache look. TFS
