14 when i got their album, it's been 20 years, still have the album, and play it regularly, this band didn't get the publicity they deserved. They're up there with the best indi bands, in my opinion.

When this record came out, I had just moved into a dorm for the first time, and one of the cool things was it got this channel “MTVU” (as in ‘University’), which was like the old MTV in that it just played videos, the occasional interviews with bands, concerts, etc. They played “What I Say and What I Mean”, and then later, this, a whole lot the first couple of months, and I remember getting sucked into it even though it was a bit more ‘pop’ than what I typically listened to, and my roommate and friend would constantly tease me about it, although I later convinced him the second song was good, lol. There was just something about Z Berg’s songwriting that was…smart, for lack of a better word

Also, the fact that she ended up singing in Bright Eyes the “Cassadaga” record was really cool as well; wish he would’ve used her even more prominently, like he did Maria Taylor on some of the older stuff. Although on some of the EP stuff her voice is really prominent, like “Reinventing the Wheel” or “Stray Dog Freedom”. …Wait, why am I posting this ramble to myself?? I’m deranged lol

back here because this was a song that came on in my childhood on one of those music video channels on cable. Song has somehow came back to me and even more now that I've recently started to get into the band The Warning which is also a three member female band

This was my favorite line up of The Like and this is one of my favorite songs. I think Z Berg’s voice sounds best when she sings softly and then bust into the louder parts. She does this in the song Spark by her other band Phases.

Love this band and such a shame they didn't carry on. Their second album had a lovely 60's vibe to it but this song was what got me into them all those years ago. And that bassist.... 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
