It would probably eventually turn into a middle earth that will have a world war over a One Clock To Rule Them All or a Compass That Can Rule All instead of The Rings Of Power and The One Ring That Will Rule Them All. What they are not about is giving up.

The numbers of 20k seem accurate to the sources. But Gondor seemed to be constantly at War and shows the flashback with Boromir to hint at it. A generation before they probably had a lot more.

So disappointed in Corey Olsen... You're right, Olsen absolutely knows his stuff. He's the preeminent Tolkien scholar of our time. So, to see him selling out to Amazon, and hear him saying things which he KNOWS aren't true, is truly disappointing. He has no integrity.

No one is "an original". There are only a few stories in the world, retold again and again and again in different forms. Also there are deeply routed ideas what elves and dwarves are and how they look. Those ideas might differ between cultures, but we immediatly know if someone doesn't fit our culure's standards of those mythical and/or folklore beings. What amazon studios made didn't fit most of the audience's ideas about what Tolkien's work is. Tolkien didn't have to describe everything, because he used the middle european ideas of myth we all know and share. He did write lengthy descriptions everywhere he thought it to be neccessary - to distinguish his elves from the fairy tale sprites of french origin for instance. Here in Germany those little winged things never really extisted. We have gnomes and dwarves and "fairies" - called "Fee" that are a lot closer to the old norcid ideas. But I digress. Thing is there don't have to descriptions if the author and the reader (or audience) draw from the same cultural backrounds - be that a very old one like tales and myths or a more modern one like a 60 year old book.

All myths influence all the great stories, so nothing new there. Who read Hobbit, then LoTR, then later Silmarillion, plus 'Bored of the Rings' (hilarious parody BTW), then saw the films... [raises hand]. When I saw the films I thought, "yea, the lore is all there, so near as dammit". Where is this inconsistency that makes everything not canon and open to interpretation? Genuinely I want to know. I saw the posts about "we don't know about Orc origins", but we very clearly do- so where is this great inconsistency that allows show-runners to be fast & loose with the lore... when know when Gandalf (and the Istari) arrived in middle earth. Anyhoo, the canon is all there, literally in print to read, so anyone saying there is no canon is being wilfully blind. Our good Professor seems to be playing "strawman" with his assertions. Also people seem to forget that Amazon didn't go to him first for endorsement, the other people they tried said "that's not canon, you can't do that" and were passed over.

I'm among those "over 35" people who aren't threatened by Rings of Power, because I never attached to the Jackson films as the standard, because I read the books before (numerous times, including all 12 volumes of The History of Middle Earth, which are the different drafts of the Silmarillion, and a stitched together draft of Lord of the Rings). But I enjoy all Middle Earth media, including the earlier PC games and such. None of them are as good as the experience of the books, not even close. But I still like them quite a lot for what they are. I'm not even a fan of blockbuster films, but enjoy Lord of the Rings - which is more or less a blockbuster film remake style adaptation (I do not believe in perfection, so don't see them as such, either). I think a similar thing happens to many adaptations, and it's a shame. There is a massive difference between young and older Asimov fans on the Foundation adaption as well. If you go to the "Book and TV Show" community, largely populated by people who have not just read the original Foundation, or even the trilogy, but all the Foundation and Robot universe books, and the show is almost universally loved, while the other forum (TV Show only) is much hated. The irony is the anti-show people believe they are doing it in service to the book fans, many of them claiming to have read "Foundation" but seem unaware of most of the plot - not saying they didn't read it and lied, but obviously didn't read it closely, or perhaps audio booked it which probably means they didn't take the time to contemplate any of the words.

I honestly agree with you. Like, fully. I’m so sick of people calling everything woke. It’s really draining, and I hardly go on any social media because of the sheer amount of hate everything gets. Now, I do think this show could have been better, and everyone has the right to dislike or like this show, and their opinions are valid… but when you start throwing the words “feminism” and “diversity” in to make it look bad by saying it’s woke is quite immature, and you’ve lost me. Feminism and diversity are a good thing to have, unfortunately the media has perverted the word and other films and shows also haven’t portrayed it very well feeding the negative connotations of it (*cough* she-hulk *cough*). But other than that, I am a huge Tolkien Fan, and I’ve read LOTR, Hobbit, Fall of Numenor, and the Silmarillion, but I don’t think this show is garbage. Sure, I would change things, but it does separate itself from the source material, and to be fair, LOTR and Hobbit weren’t exactly 100% accurate either (and those films are very dear to me). Overall, I’m relatively indifferent about the show, and there are aspects that I do like a lot, and some I don’t. Anyway, I think s2 is much better, and I look forward to the finale. Have a nice day to anyone who may read this. 😊

The archers guild should give you dunedain rangers imo, since the bowguard are so atrocious. Bree is stated as an archer faction, but it's top tier archer is worse than many first level archers. Watchmen units in general are that way, compare them to the high elves first tier units.

behind the times here, but Gil-Galad built the towers for Elendil in token of their friendship. Lindon was much more powerful at that time than it later became, and the elves helped the Numenorean refugees out a ton.

Tolkien explicitly stated that the Noldor and the Teleri have long hair - and those are all elves we ever see in story. We never see any Vanyar not Avari in RoP. So all elves hat we do see there should be long-heire. PJ had nothing to do with beyond being able to read what Tolkien wrote.

To say that Tolkien himself never stated that Dwarves didnt have beards simply didn't read Tolkiens works. For in The Hobbit, when the reader is introduced to Dwalin (the first Dwarf that enters Bilbos home, The Hill) the book specifically says that Dwalin had a blue beard. Solves that mystery.
