What are the chances of getting into med school after studying psychology or philosophy today?
@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 3 күн бұрын
The major is only one factor in a very multi dimensional process. We would need more info to truly consider opportunity and chance like strength of gpa, science gpa, extra curricular activities, MCAT score then actual writing in app…but psych majors with excellent science gpa’s and all other info do well. Where are you in the process?

Hi! Im a girl in a country where women dont usually do a lot of sports, and last year, I participated in a global fencing tournament, but I came dead last. I want to use that to talk about failure as a whole and my fear of failure. But I feel like that would be a little too cliche and I'm not sure how to make it different. Also, I'm not sure what the conclusion should be. I'm extremely stressed about my college essay so your guidance would be appreciated!

Hi thanks for watching. Sounds like the beginning of a super promising essay. I would start with ending ‘dead last’…you can do it in storytelling description..either narrate the final blow of the last match or the announcement of your positioning at the end. Then par 2 get into where you are and how much of a big deal it is and get into your home and cultural background…women in sports etc Instead of failures teaching you something - you can do that but I would try and stretch it a bit more. Maybe reflect on failure being not doing something / not trying, then expand to the diff failures you see - maybe it’s a failure that girls can’t play sports or have other limitations. What other failures can you think of and then how do you help others fight against Just some ideas. Good luck!

Hi. I’m starting community college in the fall in the associates program, majoring in psych and it’ll be my first year in college. I’m really eager to be active on campus and being apart of the honors college is something I’m interested in. I wanted to ask my advisor about it but I want to give myself at least a few semesters in to see how the classes turn out and see how I feel and how my stress levels are going to be. Do you think I’m eligible because on the website it says it’s for FYIC and puts other requirements? So, I think I should be fine but should I apply for the program early or just give it some time? And through this program I can also transfer to an HBCU of my choice right and apply to multiple schools?

I want to write about my experience training for powerlifting nationals. I have many aspects of my life I want to talk about but don't really know how to get it all together. Here's a list of some of the things I want to talk about: Herniated a disc in my back and rehabbing it myself, missing my own expectations by a lot, growing to hate what I was training for, having so little money I could barely afford essentials like food, gas, and my gym membership to train, trying to balance the start of my junior year while nationals was around the corner, and lastly, still going to nationals and losing. This was a really difficult period of my life where I feel like I overcame a lot but I have no idea how to put it into an essay form. Advice would be greatly apricated!

Hi, thanks for watching. Sounds like you have lived such an incredible experience and have so much to say. I would consider maybe an essay on sacrifices - how you had to sacrifice your body, your mind when training, even your comfort when you didn't have the basic necessities and you still had to persevere...then reflect on what that has taught you and how you have grown...anything you don't get into I would save it for supplements. good luck!

@WriteYourAcceptance
@WriteYourAcceptance 13 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching. First your main common app essay doesn't need anything pre-law in it. It can be about a different topic altogether ...you sholdu watch a few of those but your Michigan supplements - the why michigan especially, you will want to do a lot of research and show how Michigan will advance your goals as a pre law student there, how you will contribute to their program, etc. you may wan to watch the first why us I did for NYU where I show you what I researched and then you use that material...you would basically do the same research for Michigan and start your own why us template which you will probably use for other schools. Also, pre-law students care about the world, policies, inequities in access to education, elderly care etc...you don't have to get political and divisive but you should share how you serve your community, narrow inequities etc good luck!

Hi, sorry to say that I agree with them. It's not about dismissing your feelings...I absolutely acknowledge that this moment could very well define your upbringing but it is not unique...a number of students will write about this topic. So I would challenge you to see how you make the divorce part of the essay as brief as possible and then focus on what things you have done, can you use the notion / idea of divorce (to separate, to make 2 when there was initially 1) and apply that to an activity you have done, or a research or service ...think about ways to expand the topic and make it you and what you have done...not just about how something you did not do impact you. good luck

HI thanks for watching! I would not mention a low grade in your personal statement. I would focus on an opening story that is emblematic of your work or similar work to what you will be pursuing, then get into the within and beyond the classroom experiences that have brought you to this moment and then ideally dedicate a paragraph to that specific program...then swap this paragraph out for the other programs so each PS is tailored to the school. I am assuming this is a PHD program not MD/ DO which the strategy would be different. If there is an additional info section of the app, then you can discuss the grade there...very matter of factly, and focus on what you have done to course correct, study differently, be more active about feedback etc. good luck!

For the artifact - it's learning in action. this is what they share on their website and honestly, i have seen students do a number of these - An academic project A community project Community newspaper article highlighting an important achievement Personal website Piece on a school, extracurricular, or community program/event that you were instrumental in creating or implementing High school or community award that was meaningful or prestigious Local, state, or national competition related to a club or school activity Picture of something of value to you A culminating event for an ongoing activity from high school

Hello Dr. Josie, I found your video incredibly helpful in shaping my approach to my essay. As a transfer student from an out-of-state university with a strong GPA, I'm seeking advice on how to structure my "WHY US + MAJOR" essay. While I have a solid academic background, my extracurricular involvement has been primarily focused on a research job that opened doors to Georgia Tech's impressive research opportunities. My question is whether I should solely emphasize this research experience and its connection to GT, or if it would be beneficial to also mention other interests such as my involvement in a band and various high school club activities. Additionally, when crafting the "9 Distinct Values" essay, would it be more effective to draw on a high school experience or should I focus on something more recent? Thank you for your guidance.

Hello Dr. Josie! (I'm not sure if you still are assisting with students here on YT, but worth a shot!) This is Spencer. I am a sophomore, transfer applicant. I intend to pursue an Industrial Design Career. In terms of general essays for Georgia Tech, I do have concerns with the connection between my essay and academics. I've had a rough academic record (no fails), but since have stepped up since senior year of high school. My current prompts are along: "Why Us + Major" and "9 Distinct Values + How Past Experiences led/prepare for GT's community?" P.S.: About a year ago, I have met multiple times with GT's dean of my major. We've met both in-person, virtual, and invited me to an event that the department held. Early on, Ive alsways been interested and hoped to attend GT. As mentioned above, my academics have been rough. Most importantly, In my life I rather chose to focus on my passions, ambitions, and skills (design, art, music, family, etc.) I stopped engaging in school-extracurriculars in high school due to my large focus on improving myself and attending outside art classes. I am a bit scatterbrained when it comes to writing/storytelling, but anyways, I am confused on how and where to iterate my academic record and my internal focus on myself (skills, art, etc.). Any advice or subtle hints would be much appreciated (in response to this scatterbrained letter)!

Hi Spencer, Thanks for reaching out. I would say that your HS record is far less important as a transfer applicant than your current college GPA/ courses. How is your current GPA? You mention senior year and those concerns but not this year and last. As a transfer applicant - which you should see my video on transfer essays - you should focus on identity, passions, and academic strengths in your current college environment. How have you worked to make it a better academic / social space for students within/ and/ or beyond the classroom? Also, you want to really do a deep dive into what you will gain and offer GT as a student. They want to see that you will create your belonging ASAP...so networking with the Dean is good and you can mention that but also so research on specifics to how you see yourself living and learning on their campus. The less than stellar grades from HS I would not mention but if you need to discuss anything academic from college that I would carefully consider. If it is isolated then maybe in the additional info section of the Common App, if it is integral to your story and why you want to transfer then maybe in that one essay. Hope this helps. transfer vid - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZ6pd5Rmq8uUfJosi=XoK6cdhsJRfTEpZh
