Its still fucking awesome. The imports I've had where weak sauce compare to drinking it in San Diego. Had it a bunch of times on keg in various locations and then bottles as fresh as 4 days old.

Criticism of small beer gets shunned but should have a valid place because without it people will just make the same mistakes. The only thing I hate about it working in beer is the "south park yelp reviewer" esque untapped users who drop dire reviews just to sound like a real critic Also on untapped, it needs weighted ratings. If we consider a particular beer to be the best of a particular style and it's sitting at 3.8 then everyone else's should be weighted accordingly. That or user review history weights ratings. Anyway, it's a necessary evil and we need to be less harsh on criticism.

Saying that, there was a lower tier Manchester brewery (Sounds like Pun-away) that challenged me on that last quote in a childish manner and then they got both barrels and went on the black list.

Yeah, we’ve seen replies like that before on Untappd from breweries. Find it rather unbecoming. That said, also seen a brewery reach out and offer to fix something that wasn’t their fault (a pub had stockpiled a keg of year old beer that was clearly past its best when served).

I live in Cheltenham and have been treating myself every Friday night since about 2017. I find this Strata (picked up some tonight along with the DIPA as a 6 pack with the key ring and sow on patch thrown in) and with the pale version I find it’s “warmer” and “rounder” like a winter version of steady. I can’t help but feel there’s some kind of spice element to it almost like a peppery ginger hiding in the background. I love it but give me a steady any day over it

They themselves distribute it outside of California. Right from their website, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Maine. I know the guys that get it in Maine, and they get a supply of it about every quarter, and doesn't last long. Usually Pliny, Blind Pig, STS, & Pliny for President (only available in an election year, and changes every election cycle). The latest Brew Your Own magazine had an interview with Vinnie, and he shared 5 gal recipes from a handful of their brews, Blind Pig and Pliny being a couple of them. Pliny has a very simple malt bill, 94% 2 row, 6% Dextrose. Hops are Warrior at the beginning of the boil, Amarillo & Cascade at 15mins left in the boil. Amarillo, Simcoe, & Centennial in the whirlpool, Simcoe, Citra, Crystal, Amarillo, & Chinook in the dry hop. 19l gal batch, ends up being a whopping 356 grams of hops throughout the process, resulting in about 97IBUs of bitterness. Vinnie pronounces it Pl - eye - ny, good enough for me.

Watching these eps and seeing the reaction to CAMRA / cask culture has been a bit of an eye opener to be honest. As someone who recently has rejoined CAMRA for the first time in....20 years maybe, primarily because I wanted discount entry to their fests, I had no idea how there was this clash going on with craft beer. My favourite style of beer is traditional best bitter/extra special bitter but I'm still to be found happily in my local craft taproom/bottleshops trying all the styles I can both modern and trad (possible exception: OTT fruited candy sours). If anything I'd say cask should NEVER die, it just needs to be appreciated in a different light and not set itself up "in opposition", and I think it might even be the way that a lot of indie craft brewers are going anyway alongside the more typical craft US styles (Kernel ESB that I can't remember the name of was lush) Had never occurred to me about the pub closures = pubco properties either. Great ep.
@planetbeertvАй бұрын
Thanks for the great comment! Yeah, it’s important to stress that we’re in no way anti-CAMRA. Our goals are after all the same. Like you say though, there has certainly been instances of CAMRA setting itself up in opposition to modern keg/cask. I think Mark’s points were deliberately provocative and could easily be paraphrased into something more severe, like ‘pub closures are good’ for instance 😆 I think, for me, the takeaway on the cask point is that everybody involved has a part to play and responsibility to making sure great cask beer is what it should be. Thanks again for your comment, we love having these discussions! 🍻 (Chris)

@@planetbeertv You shoulda seen the PO'd expression and scorn I got hit with when I asked if the real ale discount scheme was applicable in the ultimate trad-dad (and actually brilliant) little pub near my parent's house....meanwhile my favourite small brewery/taproom near me in South London that brews both best bitter AND DIPAs (among others) DOES accept the CAMRA card for a discount. It's a minefield I tells ya!
@MarkReynolds_UAАй бұрын
@@AndrewSFTSN The CAMRA discount is - IMHO - a good example of the how CAMRA are failing in their fiduciary duty. The fact that the UKs primary beer and pub campaigning organisation pressures venues to (preferentially) lower prices so it can incentivise new signups is outrageous. This is just one of the examples of things they do which benefit them as an organisation at the expense of pubs and by extension breweries. I'm not looking to criticise the entire CAMRA membership, many of them are very loyal customers of ours and we're really grateful of their support. I also know many CAMRA members personally and I know that they joined in order to do their bit to support beer and pubs. But as an organisation CAMRA are all over the place. In a way cursed by their early success; it's a distributed network of drinking clubs that gained the status of gatekeeper. Despite the obviously love and dedication shown by many members, it's not clear to me whether CAMRA is currently helping independent pubs and breweries. It's a shame because they really need help.
@AndrewSFTSNАй бұрын
@@MarkReynolds_UA Thanks for the reply! Things have definitely moved on since I was last a member and in a very interesting way. For a while I considered the fact that craft beer and belgian styles appearing in supermarkets was a sign that CAMRA had 'won' since when I started drinking it was Fosters, Carling or nothing in most pubs, but as ever it's clearly not as simple as all that. I'll consider what to do when renewal time comes around!
