Damn. I was 1 yr. old. I would return here 11 years later to win my first trophy in go-karts. The track was in the infield in turn 3 & 4. Anyone else out there that ran here in 85?

Does anyone know of video here or in any format from the weekly races of this era on the Heidelberg quarter mile? I've been to speedways half-way 'round the world and the racing I saw there as a kid was still some of the best ever.

amazing video but my F*ck this track hasn't done one upgrade ever. Total dump, the seats feel like they are gonna buckle and no running water in the bathrooms during the Hy-Miler in 2017. had to use an outhouse in the pits to have a crap, probably have aids now.

Holy hell, to see this? What a trip down memory lane. Although I never made it to Heidelberg, I've heard enough stories. Joy Fair, Wayne Bennett, Dick Mitchell, Danny Byrd (with his Edsel), Bob Fredricks, and more. In later years add in, Ray Nece, Erv Baumgarten, Wade Horne. The list goes on. These were the guys I watched at Mt. Clemens Race Track in Michigan mostly, and other S.E. Michigan, N.W. Ohio area. The 98 of Wayne Bennett was the car Benny Parsons got his start in. They built a new car for Wayne, put a small block in this car for Benny drive in the Sportsman and Figure 8, to have him do some learning. After awhile, they put a big block back in it, changed the number to 89, and put it back in the Super Stocks with Benny ready to move up. When Wayne quit racing, Benny took over the primary car, the newer 98, an the rest is history. The yellow 98 that Benny became associated with until he started driving for others in NASCAR, was from this car. Got to know Norm Benning Jr., when I was with ARCA. First as a crew member, then an inspector.

I wish I would have come across these while Joy Fair was still alive. Maybe it would spark some ideas, and he would have told some different stories than the same ones, over and over. LOL

ahhh car number 93. in trouble. Bob used to tell me fantastic racing stories when I was in high school in 1979. They were too good to be true and no one really believed him. Then one day I saw his scrapbook. Thank you Peggy for keeping a book. His midget car was there and the Yenko Modified was there. I said "you drove the Yenko car? " Sure did. Wow was I impressed.

I don't remember WVMS having a dogleg in the bag stretch and this tight a turn leading to the front straightaway. Pennsboro was one of a kind.

I lived in Mt Lebanon in 1960-65. I could see the racetrack lights from the hill I lived on. At the bottom of the hill was Heidelberg in a valley. I'll guess it was a mile away. The only time I went down there, I was 12-15, was to watch about 10,000 motorcycles descend on the city. It was awesome. Maybe someone knows something about this. I used to sit outside at night and on occasion I could hear the track.

Absolutely. Pennsboro was a real drivers track, WVMS is all about horsepower. The parties at Pennsboro were pretty outrageous too.
