Great video once again. We had a couple of jersey cows as house cows, in the late 60s my Father used to milk them by hand, all the surplus Milk would be put through a hand cranked milk cream separator (Centrifuge) it was really hard to turn till you got it turning. The cream was then salted, and once a week Father used an electric churn to make the Butter. Then a final rinse or two and he used wooden paddles to make 1lb pats of butter.
@masterfarms21 сағат бұрын
Ah nice I’m sure you had some very creamy milk! One of the big plus points of our Jerseys is the butterfat content.

I’m been watching your videos and they are fascinating, years ago i was a lorry driver all sizes I used do potatoe runs to the farms to pick up them, I appreciate the hard work that you and the workers do, people should spend some time on the farms to see how hard the work is so should the governments and see how quickly they run away

Hi, thanks very much glad you enjoy them. From May most supermarkets should have them although you could try Abel and Cole or Riverford veg box delivery companies they should have availability from late April. These will be fresh and unwashed. Thanks.

That little crawler looks great for working in the tunnels, obviously you would be doing it differently if there was a better way. I have planted some steep ground in Cornwall and a friend used two MF134C tractors to plant steep hills near Porthoustock on The Lizard back in the 70's. He was called KEMP and had Keep Eating More Potatoes on his Marina Pick up.

Am following your channel with great interest. It's a real success story, having watched It's demise in the 1960s especially when St. Hillier dramatically increased their harbour dues and more significantly the seaman's strike in 1966 when the crops rotted on the Quay which bankrupted many of the small farmers and put them out of business. They called the potatoes "Jerry Reds" in those days

Seems a clumsy tracked machine for charging about in a poly tunnel, would a small wheeled tractor not be better?
@hubertpierrot1524 күн бұрын
B,onjour , je pense que les chenilles permettent de limiter le tassage du sol , de plus il utilise son " buldozer" de manière trés précise , avec aucune perte de surface exploitée.
@masterfarms2 күн бұрын
Hi yes we could have a smaller machine but we try to utilise what machines we have already. It would have to be a very small tractor to make it more manoeuvrable than this, it pretty much turns on the spot. Thanks for watching.

My method for chitting spuds for my garden, is to put spuds eyes down into 1"&1/2" of damp compost to promote root growth prior to hand planting...I have a frost pocket garden to 24th may, so the above method advances my harvest dates by weeks, with end of April planting...No use to you commercial boys, except perhaps a mega early tunnel crop...

I find your vids very interesting and informative being the son of a Scillonian farmer, where we had a good early spud trade untill the early 80's. The trade died overnoght with EU and Egyptian imports. I always said we should have had a Scilly brand like you guys. I still grow for local sales and use compact tractor with home made implements but always lift with a shovel so not to damage skins. Charlottes are the main favourites of locals with some estema and anya. How many tons of seed do you process and do you ever cut the tubers ( as my Dad uses to )?
@masterfarms2 күн бұрын
Thanks very much sounds very interesting what you use to do and still do! Yes Charlotte’s are still a favourite with customers they are quite similar to the royal. We would process around 700 tonnes. No we keep all sizes. Thanks.
@livingladolcevita73186 күн бұрын
having had an allotment for many years interesting to see the way you prep seed pots. Never knew you would get bigger pots if planted further apart and also picking off sprouts to encourage further sprouting. Not mentioned in any gardening books as far as I know. Must try this.
@masterfarms2 күн бұрын
Just be careful not to knock the shoot off very close to planting as this can delay emergence. We are knocking off the first shoot around 8 weeks before we plant them out.

Another interesting video guys thankyou. What fertiliser do you use and does it make much difference considering how little time and the size of potato you require. Also how far apart are the tubers? 2 inches? 😊
@masterfarms4 күн бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. We use a Yara Mila Sulphurcut. Yes it’s crucial to ensure a good yield. Although it’s a short growing season the potatoes still require nutrients all the way through to ensure a healthy crop which in turn reduces other disease issues. Yes slightly depends on seed size these are only about an inch apart as the seed is very small.

@masterfarms Great thanks. Keep the vids coming 👌🏼

I wonder what keeps the topsoil from washing away during a heavy rain?
@SpicyGherkin695 күн бұрын
Not tilling more than necessary probably. Idk if you could cover crop potatoes without messing a lot of them up while they’re still in the ground. Another thing is it usually doesn’t take long for roots to form after they’re covered up. Any farmer knows not to plant a day or two before a monsoon
