What about the title of your video? 💯 clickbait. I read the novel and the difference is abysmal between the novel and the musical, which I also saw on Broadway. Hopefully on Thanksgiving I will see those differences.

I wish you would have mentioned what was different in the movie than the stage show. I am looking forward to seeing it, mostly because I've never gotten the opportunity to see it when the show came to my city. Tickets are always on a lottery and my number hasn't gotten picked yet. I try every time. They sing live in the movie, which isn't commonly done. I think it makes it more authentic. Definitely looking forward to it.

what I find surprising is that in the original Wizard of Oz, Glinda doesn't really show or give off the vibe that she and the Witch of the west had ever been friends. And in the movie, she says that the witch of the west has a sister the witch of the east, why is that not in the musical or movie? Most of all I have loved Wizard or Oz all my life, I then love OZ the Great and Powerful and I have wanted to see the musical but now the movie is coming out I can't wait to see it.

Her sister is in the musical, her name is Nessarose. Elphaba only goes to school initially as her companion
@knyfe-wrench20158 күн бұрын
What? The Wicked Witch of the East was the witch who was killed by the house at the beginning. The one who was wearing the ruby slippers before Dorothy takes them. In Wicked she's Elphaba's sister Nessa, in the wheelchair.
@andrefurman93898 күн бұрын
... and the reason why Glinda IN the 1939 film DOES NOT give that vibe, is ALSO explained in the Wicked story. She is not supposed to tell. Obviously you are not familiar with the musical. I LOVE it. Have seen it twice on Broadway. Ready for more.
@patclinker65878 күн бұрын
Also, The Wizard of Oz and Wicked were written by 2 different men. L. Frank Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz decades before Wicked was written by Gregory Maguire. Wicked is Maguire's ideas of how everything in the Wizard of Oz came to pass. Wicked tells where the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion come from, who the Wicked Witch of the East is and how she came to power, why Elphaba wants the slippers so much, how the monkeys came to fly, even how Elphaba's flying broom came to be, and SO much more! SEE the live musical!!!! You will be SO glad that you did! Also, Glinda's name originally was Galinda. She shortened it, I won't give it away as to why. Wicked also explains why the house, containing Dorothy, came to Oz. SEE THE MUSICAL!! I read the book Wicked, but there is a lot of violence in it, so I didn't care for it. They didn't put it in the musical, thank goodness! A little bit of trivia, the name Elphaba came from the writer of The Wizard of Oz's name. L. Frank Baum = Elphaba, get it? And the coat worn by the Wizard in the Wizard of Oz was originally found at a used clothing store. When Oz's costume department really looked at it, they found the name L. Frank Baum on a tag inside it! WOW!!!

Actually, even better, I highly recommend reading the book. Or books, in the Wicked series by Gregory Maguire, if you truly want to understand the full scope of how the story of Wicked came to be and to see how it flourished. The musical is incredible as @patclinker6587 stated, but there truly is SO much wonderfulness that is hard to encapsulate into a musical or movie/movie series, from a book.

"It's based on a novel . . . not a musical." Or the 2024 movie "Wicked" is a prequel to the 1939 musical movie "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", (and perhaps a less remembered 1902 stage musical) which was itself based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" which inspired Gregory McGuire's 1995 precursor novel "Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" which in turn was the basis for the Schwartz/Holman 2003 musical "Wicked". I just hope no one will be inspired to make movies based on Baum's 12 sequels to his first Oz book other than the 1985 "Return to Oz" animated movie. In short, all the Oz books/movies/musicals/etc of the past 125+ years have been based on/inspired by/or influenced the many Oz works that came after. 🙂

I really disliked the movie because they did gender swapped again. And I had enough. Just tell the right characters from the musical. And appearances of The Wizard is not from L. Frank Baum vision. And as for Cynthia Erivo, has been such a drama queen just like Rachel Zegler. All because one fan's picture. That's why I preferred different actress for Elphaba. Oh, that commercial on TV. It's not her line, it's Idina Menzel's line from the beginning of Wicked. Why they picked Cynthia? She's not my Elphaba and Blue Fairy from Disney. Just stop picking the wrong actors.

When were you going to explain the differences? "Based" on the stage version is a good choice of words since by making it into 2 parts and adding songs, it won't be Wicked. Although it looks visually good, I won't waste my money to see it. I'll wait to see it on stage again and watch it the way it is supposed to be.

the changes they made from the book to the broadway play were absolutely brilliant. you can't say that about every adaptation. it will be interesting to see what they did in the movie, but i am already sort of disappointed that they have made 2 parts. seems like a money grab to me. if broadway can do it in one go, hollywood should be able to do it in a few hours also.
