Electricity is my specialty and I can tell you that solar and wind power in a province like Alberta is not worth it unless you have battery back up but even battery back uploses serious efficiency below 0°

Wind power rarely makes up for the cost nor does it produce the energy put in. Between the cost of construction, maintenance and horrible noise it makes, it almost never recoups the investment. It’s also an eye soar. Solar is slightly better but not by much. They’re only 20% efficient and I hate to break it to you, but it only produces electricity when the sun is up. It’s really only worth it for Alberta if it feeds a battery for use at night, which pretty much doubles the cost. Oh, and batteries lose major efficiency in the cold. The only clean energy worth mentioning is nuclear. Japan is smart enough to use it and have pretty much mastered it. I think the proposed data center is a great way for Alberta to create economic activity and bring money there. It may not be California, but the energy is there. Alberta has the energy, why not use it. Call me a climate change denier if it helps feed your moral superiority complex. I sleep better knowing I support families being able to feed their kids versus potentially saving the planet in a couple decades. I heard I someone say a while back “the only power that environmentalists support, is imaginary power”. Climate change alarmists need to pull their head out of that brown hole. China doesn’t care about the environment, go fly to Beijing and whine to them.
