I did this same thing with all the various stitches available on my sewing machine & made myself a “sampler” that I hung up near my sewing station to remind me how each stitch on the machine looks when you sew. Thanks for your video!

Thank you thank you thank you. Your method is the best. I'm visiting in Germany. The machine I'm using dies not habe a foot. I nearly did a hand sewn one.

That was really well explained. A lot of people do not realise that an old zig zag machine can sew such a nice BH. A lot of machines that can sew a button hole sew one side differently to the other when the machine reverses. This way the stitches remain constant. I also did not realise that you do not have to turn the fabric around. Nicely and slowly demonstrated. I liked the first bit where you took time out and showed us the zig zig widths. Excellent and thanks.

Yes to all your points! I agree. I have never gotten a one step buttonhole to work properly. One side is always different fatter or slimmer than the other and never enough space to cut the hole in the middle.

This method makes so much more sense than others I've seen. You can see what is happening throughout the process, don't need to turn the project, and have a lesser chance of misalignment.

This is a really good video. My sewing machine does automatic buttonholes but halfway thru the process it starts to stitch on top of the same area creating a huge bulky knot of thread. It looks like manual buttonholes is my best option going forward.
