Do you have any of the parts left?

Yes we do. The deal for scrapping the lot did not work out. If you wanted to let me know what your interest was, maybe I could address that directly.

I remember those printers, like the IBM ProPrinter, from the late 1980s & early 1990s.

How fast is the printer printing

Here is a link to the specifications: mticom.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/dfx-5000+-product-brochure.pdf The printer is printing about 420 Characters Per Second.

Have one myself. I get light ink though, even when I change the cartridge...Ink still comes out very lightly.

@JReid0861 Thanks for the kind words. One thing you can surely say about living to drive another day: The cars are getting more fun.

@JReid0861 Something by Metric. You could listen with one of those smart phone apps and I'm sure it would pop up.

@JReid0861 Don't wait. Really that whole area is great. I took the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way to the end, then back and did the Tail of the Dragon again a couple times. Don't forget to get a few gallons of "Dragon Fuel" 110 octane at a local gas station, just to say you did it.

By the way, awesome video brother and thanks for posting.

Well its obvious he has more respect for safety and his Evo X than you do in your GTS. No one likes the kid with a fart can doing ricer flybys or driving like he is straight from Fast and the Furious. I would be extremely pissed if I had my family out for a Sunday cruise and had some punk driving like a jackass endangering not just myself, but my wife and kid as well.

Also what is the name of song/artist for the track on this video?

Awesome video brother. I also have an AS Evo X. I want to get out to the Tail of the Dragon soon.

Very nice :) I was 15 when I started my IT career, The first task I had was assembling a DFX-5000+. The Printer came in packaging that required unbolting just to remove it! The sound of 560 Chars a second was unbelievable compared to the OKI it replaced. One day I made the mistake of touching the print head right after a pay slip run.... first & only time :P

We've got 2 of the printers and have used them heavily for more than 10 years. The only problem we've ever had is the tractor paper feed breaks about every 7 years. Costs between $80 and $150 for the part and is easily replaced by someone with minimal mechanical skills. We really like this printer because of its speed and reliability.

@nathan12111 Lucky you! I drive almost a whole day to get out there. You were correct about the area. I won't mention the road number. You don't need a bunch of out-of-towners and cops clogging the road, right?

Southbound Tennessee 129 very close to the North Carolina border. The Tail of the Dragon is 318 curves in 11 miles. You would have a lot of fun on your bike there.

Thank you. Music is "Gold Guns Girls" by Metric. Watch for more soon - I'm just beginning to sort through my 4000 mile trip through the Appalachians. Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Blvd, etc. All around twisty roads, naturally.
