These are gorgeous, I can't believe this doesn't have more views. I've painted my own 3D printed miniatures, but for some reason painting a piece I've purchased feels so much more daunting. I'm still incredibly new to miniature painting but this just makes that process so much easier for me, now. Thanks a million, dude. First up, DBD core set - after that, I want to tackle the Resident Evil 1 board game! Do you think you'd have any interest in doing those? I'd love to see what you come up with!

Hey Mick. Yeah I'd never thought to do it until I saw it a while back in another video. I've used the basic technique heaps of times now. Works really well on highly textured minis (like an animal with lots of fur) cos it saves you from having to individually highlight each hair or whatever the texture is. Just leave the shadows dark and the wash takes care of the rest!

Hey Mathew, I never noticed just how much you thin your paints. That brown undercoat went on like it was a water color and not an acrylic. Very useful information and fantastic looking results, as always. thanks and 👍.

Hey TP. That's a big part of why I love Reaper paints. They just come out of the bottle thinner than other brands. To be fair, that brown is just thinner than a lot of the others, so I don't 'normally' thin my paints that much. But anytime you're going to be blending a lot, thinner paints help.

The generatir looks really good but as a dead by daylight player i just wanted to let you know there's no blue on the genorators its mostly just reds blacks yellows and silvers unless its a generator that goes inside of a building then it replaces the reds with more yellow. Hey Spring. Haha, I knew I'd annoy some purists :) The blue is a good example of how I sometimes veer away from perfectly copying how something looks, to try and make certain details stand out more. I just wanted to break the greys and metallics up with something a bit different.

@theplasticcanvas
@theplasticcanvas 9 ай бұрын
Hey. Glad you liked the video. Yeah I'd do it exactly the same with other colours. So if you were doing brown, basecoat with a dark brown and then use a brown wash. Then go back to that same brown and highlight the full length of each hair. Then go to a lighter brown and highlight each hair again, but start a bit away from the base. Just keep doing that until you're painting just the tip of each hair with a really light brown.

Thanks TP. Glad you liked it. Absolutely you can avoid mixing colours. I only mix when I don't have the colour that I need. So when I was painting the brown that's in between Ruddy Leader (which I accidentally labelled as Muddy Brown in the video) and Leather Brown, I needed to mix those two because I don't have the colour that's halfway between them. Hey man, I really appreciate your videos. You do great work. I am preparing to paint my Scythe minis which will be my first ever attempt at mini painting. I do have a question though, why do you elect to dab each individual bolt on the ship rather than use a dry brushing technique like I've seen others use? Any reason in particular? Just personal preference?
@theplasticcanvas
@theplasticcanvas Жыл бұрын
Hey Jacob. Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoy the videos! I individually picked out each rivet because of how small they are. It's really hard to be that precise with drybrushing. If I drybrushed them, there would've been heaps of the metallic paint that ended up on the panels around them. So it was a little time consuming but I needed to do it that way so it didn't look messy.

Yeah it's strange that there doesn't seem to be one. I just did a search but most things that come up are either expanding foam, or the type of stuff that goes in a caulking gun. I mean that might be fine, but you don't really want to be getting out a caulking gun every time you want to base a mini! Try this link here. You can save yourself a bit of time by picking up contrast, speedpaint or xpress paints and giving them a go over your zenithal priming. This will ensure you keep some vibrant tones and not have to spend the extra time with layers of washes (believe me I tried to paint with washes for a few months) plus you can use medium to thin down the contrast paints if you don't want the colors to be as strong and take away from your Survivors and abominations. Then instead of using your costly Agrax Earthshade to individually wash each mini, use a can of Army Painter Quickshade strong tone, or dark tone for a really strong contrast of darks and lights and just dunk each zombie then set them out to cure for 24 hours. You can finally go back and add blood effects as you like, paint in eyes here or there, and finish out your bases (ie: put some astrogranite down to simulate sidewalks, and paint your base rings black for added contrast). You'll save time, and the Quickshade has a side benefit of adding a protective layer of coating to the minis that is quite thick. Spray the zombies down with some Testors Dullcoate, or Krylon Matte spray protectant to reduce or eliminate the shine from the minis and you'll have some really sweet looking, high contrast zombies that look great on board. ☺
@theplasticcanvas
@theplasticcanvas Жыл бұрын
Hey. So the reason I went with washes as opposed to speed paints etc is because the look that you get from washes specifically is grittier and less 'clean'. For zombies, or creatures from other horror games where I've used the same technique, that look that you get fits them perfectly.
@Emloch
@Emloch Жыл бұрын
The best way to paint minis of this scale are with Contrast paints or Speedpaints. You can knock out a model every 10 minutes and they look great. Or you can spend more time adding highlights to make them really pop. They've worked great for me
@theplasticcanvas
@theplasticcanvas Жыл бұрын
I don't have any Contrast Paints or Speedpaints. How do they go with such small details? Can you paint precisely enough with them to be able to cleanly pick each detail out? From the videos I've watched they look like they'd flow too easily off of one detail onto another.
