What about when the stem pulls out of the 1222? Does the expander get the plastic shell out too?
@Desmo13 күн бұрын
Wouldn't it show better if you actually made the video using an old cartridge that's been sitting in its column for decades, so you run into the issues that most do? This looks easy enough on a clean, new setup.

I have a stuck 1222. The cheap cartridge puller only pulled it maybe 1/8". I didn't want to pull on it too hard. I ordered the ONA puller as soon as I returned the cheap puller. Supposedly it is arriving tomorrow. I am praying it comes out like how it does in all the videos. We have very hard water where I live. Even with the softener it still gets a lot of buildup...

Thank you for this accessory! The cartridge in our shower broke at the brass stem. Our house is 20 years old and runs on hard well water. After only 2 minutes attempting to pull out the cartridge, I realized I needed a to buy the correct tools. After researching, I purchased the ONA puller set and the broken stem accessory. It got me 75% of the way there. Likely due to user error, there was an even tilt from the top screw compared to the lower one. The crank pull worked well until the carriage broke after being 75% out. Luckily, I was able to easily remove the rest with a vise grip. I still consider this money well spent because I could have not done this without the tool, and now I have it for future needs. This is a great solution!

It would be great if you could figure out a way to keep all the pieces together so we can just throw it back in the truck and not have to come up with our own method to keep 6 piece tool together. I think you could do this very easily perhaps no extra parts if you machine thread a a part of the shank to recieve the t handle. Thank you for a Tool that help pull these stubborn moen cartridges fully.

Buy this tool. Only then will your life be full. I mean, for a plumber. Plumbers are the best. I know this because I'm a plumber. This makes complete sense to me...

At 51 seconds into your video you are using a Moen cartridge puller (not ONA) trying to disassemble a Delta faucet. I must say this is not going to work and I doubt a ONA puller would work on a Delta faucet either but it was good for a laugh.

Okay... Cool for all of us with 1222 moen cartridges. But... what about us with DEEP bathtub faucet 1248 (could also be 1224, same cartridge, but smaller hole designed for bathroom SINK faucets, but often mistaken in the bathtub!)? The bathtub faucets generally are installed with STEM EXTENSIONS! Moen makes/made several versions. I have the good old 13462 (?) OKay, not a big deal, extensions have a screw, and yet ONE MORE of those typical Moen retainer thingys (?) that are like the cartridge retainers, but a bit larger and can be set to make your faucet handle the appropriate height. No problem, you use the standard Moen 14272 tool to unscrew that extension retainer dude, and THEN, you use that same tool to unscrew the cartridge retainer 'nut' thing. But... Now! The cartridge (1248 or 1224) is WAY down in there! The usual Moen cartridge puller tool for 1222 is worthless for the 1224 or 1248 cartridge, way down deep in there! What do you have to help pull THAT cartridge????
@barryewalterseniorco Жыл бұрын
We do not make a tool for either of those cartridges. Sorry.
@scotts7391 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the 1224 or 1248 cartridges are deep down!Once you remove the retainer (moen has a tool to remove the retainer which is usually plastic or you can make a retainer removal tool with 3/4 copper tubing and cut notches on the end, it works if in a pinch). Now the cartridge is deep down. I use a 3" sheetrock screw and screw into the top of cartridge as there are female threads on top of cartridge. Use a pliers and pull up with some might, and will come out. I'm a plumber of 37yrs in business and do this all the time, and it works! Hope this helps someone.
