If you cut those pt tips a bit longer as you prepare the pt for the body, you could use them for the first (midpoint) hackle legs, and not waste them! I always try to maximize my use of materials! Just an observation!! Excellent fly and deadly, imo!
@DannyEnglish-flytying21 күн бұрын
It can have it's days when it's deadly, then others when they won't look at it, the attraction of fishing. If the fibres on the PT feather are long I use them for knotting hopper legs. Going forward I'll look at doing as you've suggested, would save a lot wastage if they could be used. Thank you 👍🏻

I use a safety pin because the sharpened point is less jagged than the cut end
@DannyEnglish-flytying21 күн бұрын
I found the paper clip easier to shape than a pin. If it works for you, then who am I to question your method. Saves a lot of time, more time for tying flies!! 😉

Может пригодится-при завязывании используйте кусочек монтажной нити, а узелок с мочить лаком. Лапки очень привлекательны для рыбы и очень быстро обрывается. С нитью прочнее, вам успехов!

I would prefer to invert the hook (upside down) in the vise and tie them in underneath.

Just get a crochet needle works way easier.
@DannyEnglish-flytying7 ай бұрын
Tried it, tried a needle from a knitting machine as well, both work, but I wanted something that was easier for me to tie them with. Every man to his own, if a crochet needle works for you, then that's your preferred method. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, it's a video to show the method I use and find easier than anything I've tried already.

Good fly, however check out Alec Harvey, for his style of tying this type of fly. Squirmy is not the most robust of materials, and Alec Harvey's method makes for a more reusable fly when the squirmy becomes damaged.
@DannyEnglish-flytying9 ай бұрын
There's a multitude of methods used to tie squirmy material. The use of 2 rings is also popular. The fly is tied to help those who are not aware that a bead is not needed. I'm by no means suggesting the way I have tied the fly, is the best method. It's the way I tie the fly, without the use of beads for weight.

Hi Danny, I have now watch the first and near the last. Honestly your audio is so bad I struggle. I think you really need to look into this. This aspect is so important. Not a bad tie. But I am not here to see a fly being tied. I am watching to see if you come up with something that's a bit different and really works.
@DannyEnglish-flytying11 ай бұрын
I've put work into improving both the video and audio. The videos I upload, are to help new flytyers who have messaged me and asked for help. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel. I'm by no means an expert at tying flies. I can wrap a few feathers around a hook. There are other well established flytyers, who'll show far more and give better advice and tips than I'll ever do.
@shaunfishes10111 ай бұрын
Like so many others I am So glad I have found this. I am more intrigued as to how you came up with this. This is thinking out side the box. Simple but very effective. I often come up with ideas to make a job more simple. Its a shame that there is not a big enough market for this. You could have made a few bob out of this. Well done and thanks for sharing. Don't suppose you have many more great ideas by chance. I will sub just in case. Shaun.
@DannyEnglish-flytying11 ай бұрын
I put the knitting machine needle I have into the vice and used the loop and clip to knot the feather to start with. Then figured I didn't need to lock the clip if I had a another post beside the hook. Hence the use of a paper clip, it was easy to shape and readily available.
