The Scarlett Absolutely not unless you are showing your dog!! If you read the description you would see that this is a pet trim not for show. This dog would take your hand off if you hand stripped it, he can not even stand to have one mat removed from his coat. Dematting this dog would be pure torture for both the dog and groomer!! Hand stripping inhuman!! This is a modified Norwich Terrier clip a “Pet Clip” ! It is exactly what the owner asked for, it’s easier for her to maintain as well since the dog bites her if she tries to brush out a mat.

If you were a Professional Pet Groomer you would know better! My advice on pet grooming would be to never take grooming advice from people who are not Professional Pet Groomers!!! Show grooming and pet grooming are very different ways of grooming!

You showed a Norwich Terrier with a face already groomed like that of a pet Yorkie, one that had been freshly washed. It appeared that this dog had already been clipped by the time you decided to start filming. I'm very sorry that this poor dog was so neglected to have a matted coat; all that is required to prevent a matted coat is proper grooming and then once a week brushing. I hope that you spoke to the owner about brushing the dog between grooming. Hand-stripping is NOT inhumane when done properly a few times a year. A groomer that knows how to hand strip removes the "dead" and "blown" hair and the dog should feel absolutely no discomfort. My dogs rarely need to be bathed because their shiny "hard" coats do not retain dirt; their skin is healthy from not needing frequent baths. You decided to add "Norwich Terrier" to the title and so you should not be surprised when someone that has knowledge of the breed comments.

As a Professional Pet Groomer of 37 years I have not had one pet owner with a hard coated dog ask for hand stripping. Nor would I recommend it if the dog had never been hand stripped. Again, my demonstration is on a “pet clip” pet clips are a modified version of how the dog naturally looks and can be any length. This dog is not neglected, it is a rescue dog and will not let it’s new owner brush or comb him, his hair is soft and matts very easily even when kept short, most likely because of the poor quality breed that he is as you can very well see. He is now 11 years old and tolerates less as a senior dog, therefore he is currently shaved with a #5 all over including his head and face.. I’m sure you would love that 😊 In pet grooming we do as the owner asks unless it would be harmful to the pet, and what is best for the dog and it’s overall health. Dematting and hand stripping is not in the best interest of this dog. It would be far too stressful for this dog and he would bite. I pray you would not want to put a dog through that. I have watched many hand strips be done and I have not seen one that was painless for the dog. This dog gets groomed every 4 weeks which is why he looked like he did after his bath, and he was kept that length to keep him from matting, and stressing out over brushing at each groom.

The Scarlett Its ok to clip your Norwiches fur. Some dogs can’t handle hand stripping.
