There have been soo many drownings at the mill its amazing they allow people in the water. Its hard to understand the danger until you look over the dam and imagine what force that much water has.If one believes in Ghosts there are probably plenty of spirits lingering there.❤

I-24 is a parking lot almost every time it rains, I know several people who have to go that way and it takes them so long to get home. The Suck Creek Road does have some rough spots but so does the interstate, it has a lot of traffic in the morning & afternoon because you have people from Sequatchie, Marion and Grundy county traveling across that mountain

My inlaws bought the timeshare back in the 80s when it was owned by Fairfield and not Wyndham. They were grandfathered into Wyndham. It was a good deal for us since we didn't have to pay anything to stay here 4 years ago. They got it for us as their guests. They have since sold their timeshare because Wyndham changed the points system and other things. I agree. It does seem like a rip off now. We looked at getting into it when they sold theirs and we decided it was cheaper to just pay for a rental since we only vacation once or twice a year.

The ochs museaum was closed also when we went last fall. We love that view. My favorite view of downtown is from the view platform you have to hike to on stringers ridge. We lived atop missionary ridge for 3 years and we love that view also. Good tip on the free days. That’s when we always go also!
@GGingers
@GGingers Жыл бұрын
I've never seen the view on Stringers Ridge. Is it a difficult hike? I have MS but I can do hikes up to 2 mile as long as it isn't too rocky or steep. I always have my walking stick to help keep balance. When my husband and I were dating he took me up missionary ridge at night to see the beautiful view of the city. All the lights were amazing from up there. When they have fireworks over the river they look so pretty from Missionary Ridge. It is neat being above the fireworks.

I have a lot of family history that dates way way back in this area. I myself was raised in Kingston. My family, Holder / Donaldson lived in Decatur, Birchwood, Dayton and Cleveland. I have cousins around Sales Creek to Hixson. Most of my Holder family are buried at McInturff Cemetery which sits on the road between Birchwood and Dayton. The Donaldson family are buried at Buttram Cemetery in Dayton. One mystery I have not been able to solve is my grandfather's brother, Roy Holder 1901 - 1920 only record I can find of Roy was he lived in Decatur around 1910....

My husband is a Chattanooga native. He works in Dayton. I am originally from Savannah, GA. I love exploring the Chattanooga area because there is so much beauty and history. That is very interesting about your family. I have a great-aunt that tracked our family back to the Mayflower. I love going to cemeteries and exploring old gravesites. I think I got that from my grandma. She always took us as kids. Decatur is such a cute town. I hope you can solve the mystery of Roy Holder. Thanks so much for commenting and sharing this. I love hearing from people that view our videos. - Chastity

@@GGingers Thank you as well for sharing your comment. My family history is very interesting. Not only the Holder side, my mother's father, being from Cleveland in the 1800s but eventually settled in Birchwood / Decatur, the Donaldson family, my mother's mother is very interesting as well to say the least. My great grandfather was Dr Samuel Donaldson. He created and opened up the first hospital in Dayton. From what I have been told, the current hospital is sitting in the original site! My great grandfather was just not a Dr for Dayton but all around the surrounding area. during the early 1900s. I can not even imagine the travel time. He evetually getting a medical office in Petros for the coal miners and traveled back and forth. I found out that many of the Holder family were Confederate soliders and about 400 of them are buried at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga. Decatur,Birchwood and Dayton I call family home!

@@nazfan01 that's awesome! We were at the National Cemetery not long ago. My husband's grandmother and some other family members are buried out there. I love when they put all the wreaths on the graves at Christmas. I plan on doing a video on the confederate cemetery soon. With the way things are going in the world I'm afraid the history will be erased so I want to get videos of as much as I can locally. There is tons of history in this area. I love hearing the history of families that settled here. It sounds like your great grandfather had a big impact on the area. My husband's grandmothers family was originally from Rhea county.
