With broken heart, and contrite sigh, A trembling sinner, Lord I cry; Thy pard'ning grace is rich and free, thy pard'ning grace is rich and free: O God, be merciful, O God be merciful, O God be merciful, be merciful to me. Nor alms, nor deeds that I have done, Can for a single sin atone; To Calvary alone I flee, To Calvary alone I flee: O God, be merciful, O God be merciful, O God be merciful, be merciful to me. And when, redeemed from sin and hell, With all the ransomed throng I dwell, My raptured song shall ever be, My raptured song shall ever be: God hath been merciful, God hath been merciful, God hath been merciful, merciful to me.

Mostly good performance, though with a couple little infelicities, the botched ending (😮), and the needless dovetail into whatever came next, you should rerecord and repost it. Dr. Hustad would have told you two things, I feel certain: 1. the essential pulse is the half note, not the quarter note, and 2. the rhythm should be flexible, like plain chant, not metronomic. Please give this another go!

I sang this with the Cathedral Choir at John Brown University in the late 70’s. I have been looking for a recording of it recently and am delighted to have this here!

Lyrics: Spirit, Spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness calling and free, Spirit, Spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea. . You moved on the waters, you called to the deep, then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep; and over the eons you called to each thing: “Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings.” . Spirit, Spirit of ... . You call from tomorrow, you break ancient schemes. From the bondage of sorrow all the captives dream dreams; our women see visions, our men clear their eyes. With bold new decisions your people arise. Spirit, Spirit of ...

Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit, cleansed by the blood of Christ our King: heirs of salvation, trusting the promise, faithfully now God's praises we sing. Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit, dead in the tomb with Christ our King: one with his rising, freed and forgiven, thankfully now God's praises we sing. Baptized in water, sealed by the Spirit, marked with the sign of Christ our King: born of the Spirit, we are God's children, joyfully now God's praises we sing.

Faith of our fathers, living still, In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy Whene’er we hear that glorious Word! Refrain: Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death. Our fathers, chained in prisons dark, Were still in heart and conscience free; How sweet would be their children’s fate, If they, like them, could die for thee! (Refrain) Faith of our fathers, we will strive To win all nations unto thee; And through the truth that comes from God, We all shall then be truly free. (Refrain) Faith of our fathers, we will love Both friend and foe in all our strife; And preach thee, too, as love knows how By kindly words and virtuous life. (Refrain)

This is beautifully played. Congratulations to the organist. What is NOT so admirable is the rudeness of the listeners whose loud conversation and raucous laughter is a distraction and certainly does not reflect in any positive way on the Geneva Presbyterian Church or its leadership.
