Love this video. But can you tell me how to apply this for a lower stitch count pattern? - say 14 stitches for the thumb?

I've never tried knitting in the round with double points but this made it look easier than dealing with circular needles for small thumbs. Thanks.

Huh? You are so extra adding in the knitting needle. Why on earth would you do that?

Having just mastered ssk I thought there must be an ssp! Very useful! I adapted a pattern that should have been knitted in the round but I adapted it to knit it on straight needles. I therefore need ssp on the even rows not ssk. Thank you

The way you explain how to unknit is the best demonstration I have seen. Looking for where the yarn has come from is a much better way of thinking about how to unknit than other ways I have seen. Thank you!

I don’t transfer the knitwise slipped stitches. I leave them on the right needle, go through the stitches from the back and purl them together. Looks the same and is less fussy.

I have been looking for a video demonstrating this exact thing for YEARS and somehow just now finally found this. It’s the only accurate demonstration of picking up cast on stitches for a thumb that also incorporates bridging those edge gaps. Thank you so much!!! No more wonky thumbs in my knitting!

Thanks for the great tutorial. I notice almost all mitten patterns have us cast on stitches after putting the thumb gusset stitches on a yarn holder. Would it work just as well to do increases in the hand portion in first round of the thumb gusset, adding the "live" stitches back that were used in the gusset?

What about ssp at the beginning of the purl row? I give this video a thumbs down.

How do you fix that stitch that looks like a criss cross, or two stitches on one stitch. Nobody covers this mistake. You can't knit or purl effectively after that happens. I'm not the only one who shares this problem because it's too common.

How do I maintain a c9nstand seperation 8n my knitted fabric? I'm knitting and all my rows are not tye same distsnce apart? It seems that every couple to few rows I'll get a wider space? Do you have any tricks to resolve this or know why it ocours? I see it in many many peoples work. Not everyone certaintly - but many! Every two or four rows it seems to be wider and further away than the other rows are? Thanks so much. #robbleyrows

Thank you for the right handed method. If you're left handed, the working yarn needs to held in front of the knitting needle and wrapped to the back, as shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e37PaHRqaZ55aM0 If you're left handed and try to use the right-handed method, the stitches won't be mounted correctly to begin knitting and provisional cast on stitches won't unzip; they have to be picked out one by one.

What do I do if I'm doing this on circular needles? How do I pick up a stitch on the main body and what stitch on the mitten? I'm not on double pointed needles! This doesn't tell me anything! 😠😠😠

Thank you so much for this! My mitten pattern instructions were just like 'knit up 4 stitches' and I'm a knitting novice so had no idea what they were on about. This was insanely helpful!
