“There ya go! I’m glad we’re all better now 🙂.” This part thoooooooooooo.

Bert was nothing if not consistent about what was important to the agency - here making clear that firing Pete was bad for reputation and business - and in the reverse situation in S1E12 making clear to Pete that "who cares" about his kompromat on Don (because Don is good for business)!

A stellar scene with many quotable lines from a show with many stellar scenes. The line, "...panicked, some people have no confidence in this country.", gets to me everytime. Plus, the Heisman Trophy in Campbell's box was a nice touch.

The thing I always liked about Pete is that he really meant it when he said he won’t let Don down. He didn’t. Right to the end.

i wish we would get a subtitled version of what bert is really SAYING. "i wish i could agree with that." = ARE YOU NUTS? "and there are other rules." = AND I MADE THEM OR AT LEAST UNDERSTAND THEM MUCH BETTER THAN YOU. "its a marquee issue for us." = KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF. "youre going to need a stronger stomach...." / "you know how much we want you here with us." = IF YOU WANT THE BIG JOB ONE DAY, YOU BETTER STOP HAVING TANTRUMS OVER NOTHING, OR ELSE YOU'RE OUT. (note: theres also a don draper in any other agency out there, too!) "im glad we are all better now!" = AND NOW, NO MORE OF THIS, GET BACK TO WORK. also note the look that roger gives off at 5:19 - "oops, someone is f-ing themselves out of their job"

ive gotten raises when i should've been promoted , and of the 2'times that ive asked for a raise was mildly surprised when they gave them to me , one of my odd bosses a nam vet once told me that it wasn't always hard work and sweat that got 1' a raise , timing and a good sense of humor and quick wit add to the punch bowl

I wonder if bank tellers would check ID upon cashing a check? If not, I'd be tempted to waltz into the nearest bank I saw and cash it. 😂😂 And then still negotiate a pay rise.

Weird how everyone is saying the title of the video (published 14 years ago) is missing the point when it's pretty obvious why she's pretentious: she's bringing a super negative approach to smoking that is guaranteed to anger the client and do the opposite of what the advertisement should do, namely making the cigarette smoker forget the possible medical dangers of the product. It's pretentious to bring Freud or her studies in Germany into a context where you're trying to, in Don's words, sell "happiness," not be "perverse". Later in the series, Don sits in on a McCann meeting for low-calorie beer that has research pointing to a similarly dour perspective on consumers, which Don also rejects as too negative. The irony all along is both that Don is not happy with his life and the material answers he sells in his ads are not the cure to his unhappiness. But damn the Mad Men comment sections seem to be full of people who never watched a single minute of the actual show, just the odd clip that makes Don look a little too obnoxious, rather than what he is, a keen observer of behavior.

It works for him because he is the perfect combination of intimidating and charismatic, without both he would be doomed, too intimidating and the client would see him as a bully, a jerk or unprofessional, too charismatic and the client would see him as a sleaze, a clown, or untrustworthy, with both Don Draper has the ability to be larger than life, a man who is able to talk big and creatively while still be taken seriously.

I do not proclaim myself an intellectual, nor a philosopher who can see the deeper meaning in art, in this case a clip from a television show. So if that is what you are in search of, you may want to have a look at the other comments here. I say all of this to say that I find it hilarious the way he says, "there you go! I'm glad we're all better now", coupled with that funny smile.
