Not a stepped leader. It's a video artifact. It's a ghost copy of the lightning bolt at the top of the screen. The strike was still close, but there was no failed stepped leader here.

Oh you got a hit...Sorry didn't scroll down. One of my friends told me he was sitting indoors on a metal chair and felt a jolt. The bolt hit a chimney next door around 30 feet away or so. Check out this one...Man hit by lightning This guy was outside in the open area on the side of the road. I think the lightning hit the car and he was standing just around 10 or 15 feet away. If he was any closer to the vehicle, he probably would have been killed.

@reysoccerpr Volts don't kill, amps do. People have been directly struck and survived. 50 feet is far more than enough distance to insulate you from the discharge. You can be 1 foot from where the lightning struck, if the discharge was directed away from you...you would survive. Allbeit, probably burnt, and effected by the static field..and scared shitless.
