It looks like there’s lots of other stuff going on in this basement…you have walls built, some sort of brackets at the ends of the joists as well as some blocking in there? Was that all done in preparation for these braces?

So you also have to build a supporting frame inside your foundation?

I was inspired by your youtube video on the use of timber trusses to span such a large gap. I was wondering you could help me work out the dimensions of the trusses used in the video eg. the width rafters used in the video? I would love to use this information to help with my school project (as a part of my A level in product design) because within my design, I have included a 100 foot (30m) span roof. Before seeing your video, I assumed I would have to design such a roof out of steel but now my eyes have been opened to the possibility of timber construction! Any help, information, or sources I could use would be greatly appreciated.

Can these be used on engineered joists or open trusses? I’m not sure what was used but I have a huge span… like 40’ with no support in the basement. And my kitchen island is deflecting at least 1/4 inch. I don’t have a board long enough to get the true measurement. Looks like 1/4 inch for 8’ 2x4.

It's much simpler to see the problem areas in a floor looking down from inside the house. Can you demonstrate how the DIY person can determine exactly where these braces are needed once they are under the house looking up at the subfloor ?

Irrelevant test. You are literally bending the plywood.

I believe the point of this was to show how the bracing works to interlock all joists connected to the system, not just the one right next to the other.

I would think supporting the ends of the two middle joists would have similar results... similar to how they would be in an actual house.

I’m usually pretty old school/traditional with my framing and am always skeptical about the latest and greatest, however in this case, these make a lot of sense! I would use them.

What are the holes for in the hanger that are inside the wall? Does rebar go through them?

No rebar is required for the ICFJH. The holes are there for the ICFWL - ledger when attaching a deck to an ICF wall.

@@wovada I have a translator. I'm building a partial SIP building. The roof truss is a more economical solution. Make it vented and the ceiling plane the air barrier and blow lots of cheap fluffy stuff above it. I'm using energy trusses with raised heels.

@@Cpt_Guirk You are probably interested in building some buildings. Therefore, I will tell you something about my ideas. Cube 5x5 m and 2.5 m high! The thickness of the walls is 60 cm foam. Ceiling thickness 120 cm. 90% of the heat escapes through the ceiling from any typical building. I can go on, but only there will be a lot of information. For example: It needs a very active and large, in terms of volume, heat recuperator. And much more. I also use a translator, of course.
