Interesting. I live in SW France and have a part of the garden which has a west-north-west exposure, on edge of forest, on a slight slope so gravel use is not possible due to water run-off during rainy times. Soil is clay topped with bark chipped as a result of nearby felled oaks and Arizona Pine.

This is one of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen. Loved this walkthrough presentation.

Maurizio explained so many of the concepts that have taken me 12 years of gardening in Italy to understand. This is the first MGS video I’ve watched although I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the members when I guided them through the historic gardens of Lazio. Thank you Maurizio and thank you Angela.

I’m writing on behalf of my husband who likes to use me as his secretary. These are his words: thanks for the video! Yes it’s important to primarily use native plants. You are right that we can use any other plants that are drought tolerant provided that they are not invasive. We understand the challenge of the Mediterranean garden. We are here in Palestine trying to build an arboretum, working on it for 8 years and failing. We’d love to learn more or host experts!
