This one is aluminum with some kind of ceramic coating. The other units that people are more familiar with use cold rolled steel that I referred to as cast iron in the video.

This is the first video I have seen of yours. Your reason to not buy Rugged radios is because they make money on them? You get what you pay for. They have awesome customer support, I have never tried to get customer support from Baofeng but I have had awesome customer support from Rugged Radios. Getting the cheapest things to save a few bucks is not always the best plan. Quality has a price. Not everyone wants to program a radio they want to turn it on and have it work. I have programmed VHF radios so I get that part of it, thanks for introducing me to Chirp, I am going to try it soon. But being cheap most of the time ends up in regret. Rugged radios are quality hardware.

Was your vehicle running? How many volts is the radio getting? I think it will do rated power at 14.8V.
@jeepinbanditrider7 ай бұрын
Yes it was running, and this spot is wired straight to battery with appropriately sized wire to run a 50 watt radio. 13.8-13.9 at the battery. 14.8 would be at the top end of "normal" for a running vehicle with a good battery. I'll unhook it from the Jeep the next free day I get and hook it to my bench power supply and set it for 14.8 and see what it does then but I'm not expecting much. It's pretty obvious this is essentially the same radio as a Midland MXT275 which is advertised as a 15 watt radio. And multiple other reviews have found a 15ish watt result instead of 20.
@djsoundzentertainment427 ай бұрын
@@jeepinbanditrider I don't believe it is anywhere near the Midland MXT275. They are definitely made in different factories and have no connection.
@jeepinbanditrider7 ай бұрын
@djsoundzentertainment42 I'm not convinced. Very similar mics, buttons in the same places but buttons themselves are slightly differnt shapes, base units, ect. Menus are very very similar and they're use the same midland Ctcss/DCS coding structure. Same antenna and coax, same accessory pack. Lots of Midlands mobiles are rebadged TYTs or other Chinese radios with midland badges. I wouldn't be suprised to find that in this case.

U can use GMRS here in USA without a license but can only run like 1 watt or 2 max believe
@jeepinbanditrider2 жыл бұрын
That would be FRS and its limited to 2 watts on 1-7 and 15-22. While 8-14 are limited to 0.5 watts. There's also a list of other technicalities that keep radios like these from being legal to use for FRS and GRMS. GMRS radio use no matter the output requires a license. Will you ever run into an enforcement action. Probably not.

Ive had it in for a bunch of trips now. No leaks, but dont ovefill either. You'll also need to loosen the cap during extended use or youll get a vacuum in the tank that will effect how well it pumps water. Just dont forget to tighten it back down after use.

So with your first complaint about RR. Does the Amazon $20.00 radio come with the tech support and customer support that RR provides? Every company does this with many products in America and sell them for different prices.
@jeepinbanditrider Жыл бұрын
There's nothing magic about the radios. You have to ask yourself if you're ok spending 400 percent over market value for a radio for customer service you may never use. And yeah they might have no issue sending out a replacement radio if yours fails for some reason, but also remember you essentially bought 4 of them when you bought one.

@@jeepinbanditrider You've overlooked the fact that the vast majority of humans are illiterate when it comes to technology. These are the same humans whose VCRs flashed "12:00" because they didn't know how to program them. Point being, most folks can barely navigate the Interwebz using a browser, let along use CHIRP to program their handheld or mobile radio. Offset, what's that?
