Great advise on visiting Kyoto and getting "shrine overload"! Just pared back on some of the things I could visit in 2 and a half days there. Also - saw some other good advice on doing some taxis in Kyoto instead of just relying on buses - a bit more money, but gets you to the tourist places faster in the mornings and then between other sites. Cheers.

How’s the spoken English at this less known cities/towns? What about their views on tattoos? I’m not the most adventurous eater. 😂 Vegetarian options exist? I’ll be in Tokyo early February for the first time.
@dezzydsdojo2 сағат бұрын
Great question! Most of these are still cities so, there will be English signage. English literacy a little less than Tokyo, but English literacy in Japan is lower than other Asian countries, still not much of a problem though. If you were going way out of your way it’s lower, but still Japanese people are generally pretty accommodating. In the places in this video there will be vegetarian options. Further away from a city center less so. No real issue with tattoos out on public, only if you do hot spring baths, even then, there are places that accommodate. Or get a private room at the places that have them and no issue! Hope that helps and that you have a great trip! TLDR English not a problem, veggie options exist, private baths to avoid any sort of tattoo worries

Avoid! Another place is the Kabukicho area in Shinjuku in Tokyo. One that is recently becoming ruined by tourism, particulary by Chinese tourists, is Karuizawa. It's probably not well known to Western tourists, but it gets absolutely insane during Chinese holidays.
@dezzydsdojo12 күн бұрын
It’s really interesting. For years, China didn’t have much of a middle class, and now that it does, Chinese tourists are more prevalent leading to that spill over in lesser known places like Karuizawa. And culturally there are so many differences too and with the history between the two countries.

I was in a group of 25 Danes on a 2 week guided tour in Japan just recently, and Gion was one of the destinations during our 3 days in Kyoto. When walking down one of the streets in Gion, 2-3 people ran after a geisha/meiko, filming her from just a couple of feet away. Never have I felt a stronger urge to suckerpunch someone for their total lack of respect! Just a couple of minutes later, I spotted a meiko crossing the street. It was obvious to me that she would cross my path, so I politely stopped and let her through. I didn't want her exposed to the public more than absolutely necessary. @dezzydsdojo2 ай бұрын
@@shivablaster4825 I appreciate the comment! So I really wrestled with that when I made the video. So that’s a fair comment. My thinking was to highlight the problem and share that there are other places to go, but (mentioned at the end) through the lens of understanding that there are ways to be a tourist and respect the culture in a manner that helps alleviate some of the tension.
