4.4 was a “showpiece” size right? The Laskers and Marshalls of back in the day played with these on oversized boards?? Geez, that’s a whole lotta timber, Johnny !

I don’t know what sets youngsters are bringing to the table nowadays, but ain’t nothin’ more righteous than distressed and pitch black!

Vintage looking tan squares is a must for 3.75 distressed Chavet from same vendor. I finally found it in a genuine English leather board maker - chessbaron from England. Stunning look

Forget 4.4” it’s gigantic and for collectors who like to show off. The other original Jaques size was 3.50”, 1.75” base so this 3.75, 1.5 base is in the ballpark for everyday average games. SC are geniuses I own two of their works of art. Mandeep Saggu is the mastermind

If you're going to manufacture and sell chess sets, you really should know how to set the pieces up on the board properly. FAIL.

I thought the original 1849 set was about 4.4 inch king, thus making all other pieces bigger and heavier??

@@conjured_up_skeletons6178 The 3.75 standard means NOTHING; the set at 4.4 -- is NOT showing off, for your education; the ORIGINAL DESIGN was played at THEE HIGHEST levels -- for MANY YEARS! That original design was -- a --4.4 King, NOT 3.75 - that smaller size was called the" CLUB set" and NOT the STANDARD at the biggest tournaments! That 3.75 was a MUCH LATER change! So, it is MORE than acceptable to play a set at - 4.4, yes you will need a bigger board ( that WAS ALSO ---A STANDARD and played for YEARS(again) at the highest levels and ALL National level tournaments ! The 4.4 is a PROPER chess set

@@conjured_up_skeletons6178 And you post in a manner showing your total ignorance of what the HISTORICAL facts are! Good job, demonstrating your ENVY of the 4.4 design---- and remember you ARE THE ONE who posted -- "its just for collectors to show off" -- how immature and demonstrating through your OWN words - you WANT people to THINK the REAL SPECS are just for "show and tell" -- Shame on you and lack of maturity!

I have a similar set in distressed boxwood which I bought from House of Staunton. My all-time favorite set and probably my last. I build a board for it that I modeled after an old John Jacques board. I think together they make the perfect set, no other set, IMHO, is equal to it.
