It's always ok to simply say "no" pleasantly and walk on. It's not uncommon to be invited for tea or a meal with no expectation of payment. Most SriLankans are gracious and hospitable. Most worker-level SriLankans don't understand/speak English well enough to really communicate in English. I have found the tuk tuk drivers to be especially helpful and honest.

@19:05 Along with altitude, people get sick with cold( both literal cold and a viral flu) and the toll on the body. Sunny sweaty days turn into chilly freezing afternoon and with that sweat and blowing wind, you don't even realise it. The locals therefore wear T-shirts and puffer down jackets. Open the jacket swiftly during the day, put them on with zip open during walks, by evening completely zip with caps on.

Told you. This is the "posh" (haha) part of trekking route. Well kept. The jiri route is the forgotten one, abandoned by trekkers and then the locals followed due to lack of livelihood.

another great episode. you pretty much do-it-yourself, considering the large numbers of trekking companies in Nepal. the most posh I know is Elite Exped, belongs to Nimsdai. he's super famous around the world.

Welcome back to Nepal. Welcome to the Everest Region. Probably the best & advanced trekking experience in Nepal. As you climb, Jokpe(as you say Donkey 🐴) are also bringing your amenities carrying on to those heights. After Namche Bazar, these Jokpe stops & from there, Yaks are used as carrier. They are strong enough onto those heights/altitude. Your presentation is very good. Your voice is comforting our ears. Thank you ❤so much 🙏. Enjoy your special & spectacular 💕🌹 Trek.

All routes there are ancient. Remember that the 1953 Hunt expedition to Everest hiked all the way from Bhaktabur in Kathmandu Valley, not form Jiri...
@karipintakivi91537 күн бұрын
Collected comments: there are about 50000 trekkers (going up and down) above Lukla, from Jiri maybe 1000 per year going mostly only up. So the trailsides are vastly more developed beyond Lukla with lodges at every corner. Traditional village life, yak raising and farming, is a different matter altogether, and you do not see that part of the culture waking the main trail and not visiting the outlying villages. What comes to cavaders you saw, yes people die also up there. Most likely they are not tourists, very few die up there actually, and those who do happens from their own stupidity (ascending too fast) or simply old age or other natural causes. This does not make hiking up there any more heroic. Phakding: perfectly possible to hike much further up, even to Namche from the plane to Lukla. We arrived Lukla 10 am, had breakfast, lunch at Phakding, arrived Namche quarter past 4 pm... 5:47 Nepal was totally closed until 1949, first Everest attempts were done from the south in 1951, not 100 years ago. 9:46 not donkeys, mules. Did you miss the rest stop on the climb to Namche where you can see Everest the first time? Clear weather and all. There is a shack selling refreshments. EBC most popular trek? Khumbu gets about 50000 visitors per annum, but ACAP area (Annapurna) gets about 120000. I would think Annapurna Sanctuary gets more visitors than Khumbu. Background: I have been there 5 times since 1985, about 5 months total. High passes, obscure trails..
