This spirit should be quite familiar to the Americans, shouldn't it? If the speaker defines the PRC to be only the mainland, then yes, Taiwan was never part of the mainland. So the speaker has a wrong or at least different definition of the PRC. The speaker has a further argument for Taiwans Independence, that is the taiwanese want it. Well, Catalonians cannot decide by themselves either, and why does the west make a fuss about crimea voted for leaving Ukraine? (Even if it was a fair and democratic vote, i think the majority still wants to leave Ukraine).
