I can't remember which Jap bike used to have a sticky clutch but in the Suzuki shop there was one every week. Great bike. Who cares about how much power it has with a single carb. Some people are complete idiots.
@robertshepherd3832 Жыл бұрын
With that single Mikuni that Commando does not have the acceleration, the torque or the grunt it was engineered to have. Most Mikuni owners have forgotten or they've never known the original response the dual carbs give these machines. Get some dual Amals on this bike and let it be the 50+ year old beast it is meant to be. It's much cheaper to rebuild the Amals, flush the ethanol gas plugging the idle circuitry than to buy the Mikuni kit. It's approx the same $ to buy the dual Amal Premier carbs as it is to buy the single Mikuni kit. Get that grunt back.

Very nice. I used to own a Rickman Enfield one of 125 or so. It had a similar gearbox. There is a movie about a fellow driving his black vintage Norton Commando across Canada. Happy Riding.

God!.....It thrills me to hear these sweet Norton's EVERY time I hear one fire up! Brings me back to when I giot home from 'Nam & a late fellow worker drove one to work every day! He lost his life on that bike but memory of being his friend (we mutually dated the same young lady, @ different times of course) rekindles better days. His name was Bob Schroeder.

As an Englishman I am embarrassed to be associated with these piles of prehistoric junk. There's a bloody good reason why the British bike industry collapsed,it's called the CB750. Take off your rose tinted spectacles, realise that ` character' is not a useful trait in a reliable motorcycle if it can't get you to work and back on a daily basis, and buy something Japanese. avoid HD's like the plague😊
@RickBlaine1941 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I have two Nortons in the garage along with one Honda VFR. I only ride the Honda.
@robertshepherd3832 Жыл бұрын
If you own a Norton Commando you can buy any parts you need, brand new, shipped worldwide and receive them in less than a week. Mr Honda stopped making parts for those '70's CB's after only a few years. Honda parts had to be sourced from used and some after market or ebay suppliers. That was so you can spend more hard earned money and buy a new Honda. The buyers of Asian iron never saw that coming. But I will admit for someone who can't wrench a motorcycle you might as well buy Japanese. My buddy did and he's been trying to sync those CB carbs for over 20 years. Still runs like sewage. Poor guy, he stopped trying to keep up with my beautiful '72 Norton Combat a long time ago. Probably can't get parts.

I grew up riding a '68 CL175 and still own a '72 CL175. They are fun and such good bikes as long as you take care of them, and they will do over 30 mph faster than 65 when perfectly tuned. I noticed that car pull out like you were not even there, which is so common. People are in such a hurry these days, which makes riding so much more dangerous.

Well I guess if I had looked up where is the idle air mixture screw instead of how do you adjust it this video would have been helpful but absolutely useless no information if you can't find the idle air screw you probably don't need to ride a motorcycle
@soldat25013 жыл бұрын
Ok, but how do I adjust the map? Is there a commercial tool I can buy or is this a dealership thing. I live in Italy and don't have many options. It sounds like this is my exact problem. Very hard cold starts. Now that winter is here, it's a real problem.
@bentraves4332 Жыл бұрын
You need a obd to hdmi to plug in to a laptop plus you need tune ecu software on your laptop . That’s it and then obviously you need to know how to do adjustments but there many online story’s to show you how . I did my triumph tt600 using this software and managed to transform my bike with it . Best of luck

@@bentraves4332 thanks for your reply - I sold the bike a year ago out of frustration. I'll keep your comments in mind for the future if I have a similar issue.
@bentraves4332 Жыл бұрын
@@soldat2501 ah ok well any modern triumph with an ecu is reprogramming via tune ecu so if you have a triumph again it maybe handy . Its why I like triumphs because you don’t need to spend money on a power commander and a company to map it like all the other bikes .

No other bike sounds as good as a BSA twin. What a beautiful exhaust note. I have a friend in SE Ohio who owns 47 motorcycles, mostly old BSA's and Triumphs. The first time I was there to see his collection I asked if he had a mop handy. He said yes, but why. I told him when I get done looking there might be quite a bit of drool on his floor. Ride safe and enjoy every journey.
