Being big on Rimworld modding, your channel is amazing. I particularly love that you don't look past certain issues with mods, as well as you don't grow complacent with your modlist. You give incredibly solid advice for both beginners and those who were out of the loop on some of the mods for a while. I didn't know how bad some mods affected my savefiles until after you mentioned it in one of your videos for example. After implementing a moderate amount of changes to my modlist and settings, I now barely ever see the error log pop up on my screen, as well as my TPS not dropping really at all.

Hopefully it'll be useful for folks to run through and check if they've got any problematic mods installed that might be eating performance. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12mAva1anZribuz6PmNoTJvTq5AdgarPyiB1cd1pFsMg/edit?gid=0#gid=0

Love it, I will test Performance Fish for myself after I'm done with my current colony. I'm rocking a I7-10700 with a 2.90Ghz of CPU, and 16 GB of ram DDR4. Is all I could afford so performance mods REALLY save me from going insane with a colony of more than 4 years old.

My comp is an absolute potato, those guys are crazy who built that
@hideshisface1886Күн бұрын
I personally had a massive success with Rocketman and GC Mothballed and World Pawns. This last one is especially life-saving as it clears the pawns clogging the save file. There is one that I use - Savegame Shrinker - this bloody thing is some sort of black magic - you can use it mid save. From what I understand, it basically creates a copy of a chosen save and it attemts to rid it of junk data that accumulated over the years of colony's life. I found it to be a MASSIVE help in keeping up stable framerates, especially if your colony was raided a lot. That being said - this mod MAY on occasion mess up saves. But since it creates a backup copy, that is at most a loss of few minutes. I have not tried Performance Fish, but I have heard a ton of good stuff about it - though it was still in beta when I first heard about it, so I was hesitant to download it, yet. Dubs performance analyzer helped me massively in figuring some of the worst culprits in tanking performance - for example, Vanilla Expanded Mechanoids was a massive performance hog due to some weird pathing and refresh rates of buildable mechanoids.
@benmackinnon3645Күн бұрын
from what I understand the performance fish and better gc world pawns incompatability is just if your using the performance fish worldpawn cleaner setting I use both at the same time with that setting turned off and they work fine

What’s wrong with prepare carefully? Got it installed atm,
@heraclesnoКүн бұрын
Don't quote me on this but from what I've heard, it basically tanks your ticks per second (essentially lowering your gameplay speed) typically 1-2 years into a playthrough due to constant update checks on characters that are generated as the game progresses. A good alternative would be character editor which can also be used mid game too.
@MysteriousFawxКүн бұрын
@AussieAwesome Similarly to what Heraclesno said, it damages your tick rate due to how it generates World Pawns, it's destructive generation that it outside of the normal 'rules' of the game. So that makes clean-up insanely hard to do, with it also making clean-up processes struggle to tell the difference between world pawns that aren't needed, and those that are still very important. So eventually you've got this massive amount of bloat in the background of your game that all demands to be tracked, if you try to remove it with something like BetterGC it will *eventually* get rid of something it shouldn't have because of how PC generated those entries. Then you'll get the dreaded greyscreen bug which bricks your entire colony as the game just stops rendering anything, all you'll see is colonist names and numbers of items in stacks. There are so many alternatives to PC these days it's really not worth the risk of running it.
@AussieAwesomeКүн бұрын
@@MysteriousFawx ah I see, any suggestions for a PC alternative? Say Character Editor but I only used PC for colony start. I didn’t know about all that lol, I’m running Rimworld on a 2013 max book air so more ticks would be Heaven lol

@@heraclesno oh, I didn’t know that lol, I need all the tps I can get so guess I need to find an alternative, any other suggestions then CE?
@MysteriousFawxКүн бұрын
@@AussieAwesome If you're not a fan of Character Editor, Pawn Editor is another option too. Some of the features are a little rough and ready but it works more similarly to how PC does for colony start.

why's your gameplay of temperate forest, can't you try ice sheet naked brutality?
@seraphonicaКүн бұрын
1:22 I agree on the sentiment here, but the phrasing is not quite right for my tastes. I don't have an issue with downloading multiple mods at once. But enabling them? That's where I try to pace myself. If you disagree, it's completely fine - just another point of view, I suppose. I like to think of unenabled mods as "waiting in the green room", whether it be for them to be patched up to current version, for me to grok another mod fully, or just because I'm trying six alternatives to see which one does the same thing in the best way for me.
@MysteriousFawxКүн бұрын
@seraphonica I get where you're coming from, but it's semantics. Obviously there is no issue with people putting mods in a waiting list and drip feeding them into their game, the problem comes from enabling a 250+ modlist all at once without even knowing what half of them do, which more players are likely to do after watching a modded series on KZbin with a link to the collection in the description. 'I want to make my game just like that' kinda thing, without actually knowing what individual settings those mods are then reconfigured to.

I'm constantly breaking 3xx, and that's 90% VE & gameplay adjustments. A lot of them are small mods or patches. If I add major addon like insecroids, genetics, or large gun mods like gun nut, guns galore, etc. It loads to 350
@IchorizorКүн бұрын
I'll have to audit my list and see how many it truly has, but I can't see it being above 300.
@MysteriousFawxКүн бұрын
@Ichorizor For me it's like Musiclover said. I add 1 mod on, then end up downloading something else to tweak a part of it, something else to retexture it so it looks more fitting with a vanilla style, then potentially a compatibility fix... before you know it 1 mod becomes 4. I'm trying where possible to remove these mods from my list or find alternatives as they're a nightmare to recommend if they come with so many caveats. I'd rather suggest mods at the moment that do the thing they're supposed to do entirely by themselves. 'It works really well if you pair it with these 6 other things' isn't exactly a great pitch. I've never heard someone say 'Oh yeah that meal was awesome... once I got rid of that ingredient, added these 2 instead, blended it, presented it differently and re-seasoned the whole thing.'
