My guess is "Spanish-style dialogue" means you write with guillemets (<< >>) instead of quotation marks (" "). That's a really bad way for Scrivener to have phrased that considering guillemets is actually a French word and they're used in Russian, French, German, Italian, and other languages, but whatever, Scrivener, you do you.

Hello, I just found this video and it was really helpful for me! Especially the part with the list. Before this video I also used a list but nevertheless I went back and changed things when I found something. But I really think your method will save me lots of time and I'm not changing chapter 1 forever... Thank you!

Is there a way to have Scrivener back up to the cloud? Dropbox, Google, iCloud... I have the same Q as Rob below.

These are great videos -- I like the chatty style -- it's like a kind friend who's an expert in Scrivener sitting you down and walking you through. I'm watching them all...

Had to quit trying to follow your Mac-specific instructions, which left me often lost and hunting for the same functions on the PC Version 3.

At 16:00, you really need to show PC screens for preferences. They are very different and some functions you talk about and show in Mac version are not available (or findable) in the PC.

Thank you very much, good to review after using Scrivener for a year or two. LOL on your example name Mr. Beans. My dutch name is Boons which translates, sort of, to english as Beans, Also I have a cat named Pepper 😂

Thank you, this helped. The one thing I still don't quite understand is how do I set it up that a new document starts with a particular style (like say Normal start, in your example). I suppose that's a relatively minor point, though, as it's quite easy to just change manually at the start.

Sofiya, My method of madness as a writer is to compile out of scrivener to word (maybe a batch of 3 chapters at a time)...run through prowritingaid (get a headache then take asperiin) then send to critiquers. I get the word doc back and review and accept/reject... Now its time to import back into Scrivener. Unfort, scriv does not allow a 3 chapter import in by splitting up single chapters. Irritating. So I import individual chapters. I love the comments option. I'm wondering how you handle clearing them? Then I guess you replace the back chapter with the new squeeky cleaned up chapter you just cleared the comments from???? Please confirm.
@jlnichauthorsff
@jlnichauthorsff 5 ай бұрын
Can you clarify if once you made revisions in WORD you import your comments into scriv...and once you decide on comments you REPLACE original chapter with new improved chapter? I didn't see what you did after you imported the revised word doc on how to update the accepted word changes. I see you comparing side-by-side to talk about comments. I am just assuming you just got rid of sub scene and renamed the Anya ch1 edits file to become sub scene. Is that right?

I have not tried this with an entire project, but perhaps it is worth a try, largely due to one point. You said that sometimes in writing you come to a point in the story, where you want to add a thing or a twist or something creating a need to change somethinging written earlier. If you go back to fix that previous issue, then you loose the flow of the workpoint. True, so true. Given that I do not use the same software, the question is how to do this in my software, Word. Thus, what I will do is add these 'do' items in end notes. Later, in editing, I hope it will be easy to look at a long list of endnotes and spend a period of time making those fixes. Thanks for the idea.

I have folders for each chapter and files in each folder for the scenes in a chapter. This leaves me with lots of useless chapter rows in outline view and totally screws up index card view. If I want to see my whole novel in both views, should I have every scene text file directly under the manuscript folder? Or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks!!!

Thanks for this helpful video! Still have a question (sorry if you addressed this and I missed it): I compiled partway through writing because I needed a PDF of the whole doc as it was. Now I want to go back and keep working, but my project and daily targets are zeroed out. In other words, I want to see the whole manuscript word count and keep going with my targets but I can't. I've gathered from some forums that to get word counts working again I need to reset my compile settings and make sure all parts of the project are selected there, but the sections I have already compiled don't appear on the contents tab of the compile menu: I can't select or deselect them. Any help appreciated!

Another poor video where the tutor is mumbling her thoughts while clicking, ticking, this and that, more for her own practice and discovery, than to really teach the viewer. Poorly made tutorial.

@@eawamp "Some random internet person"? Really? Who are these videos made for? Are there not earnings from them? Viewers invest time in watching these, and in this case my time was wasted. If you find the candid observations "rude", then you need to think what elicited such a reaction. Think hard. Get it?

@@cherilynparsons3555 Of course I'll have to watch another video. This video is a waste of time to the viewer who assumes it must be professionally created and scripted, only to find that it is a personal indulgence of the maker, and terribly incompetent. And then illiterates like you come up with the cliched indignation "Go watch another video." . Very unimaginative response, lady.

A confusing mess. No wonder people say Scrivener is unnecessarily complicated! What about the ordinary, everyday metadata (THE TITLE OF THE VIDEO!!)? Why go to 'custom' metadata without telling us about Metadata in the first place? Also, why go straight to Keywords and skip the Custom Metadata, only to then go back to it, after saying she would start at the top and work down? What is CP read Metadata? I'm going to need to find an explainer who does things logically and explains clearly. If you know of one please let me know. Thank you.

I grew up in a Doomsday cult and left when I was 18. I have this schema. And no matter how much therapy I have or self awareness I develop I cannot shake this core belief. I live alone. I have next to no friends and I fail at all of my relationships. I believe I truly do not belong anywhere. I feel like a burden to everyone and I so I have to run after a while to escape the overwhelming psychological pain of disconnection. Radiohead understood me back in the 90’s with their song, Creep. The pain of isolation is unbearable but so is being around people and feeling like an alien. I feel so stuck.

Can you find other people who don't belong either, other misfits, then you can be together alone... or united in your alienation therefore not alienated. Artists are a bit like this.
