the camper could jump over to the other side and camp out most of the other platforms respawn time repeatedly

Some characters can still camp fairly effectively with just one high platform, so certain picks could still juggle between the two against most less-mobile characters. Think about it this way - the problem with the platforms isn't that there's two, but that they're placed so high in a position that many characters can't reach without heavy committence. Even if you remove one, the fundamental reason the platforms are an issue isn't solved, there's just less of them now.
