Slepá větev "debustrolí" tvorby, snad pod vlivem tehdy nesmírně populární Nirvany nebo RHCP, kdo ví, každopádně kapela se k této době zrovna moc nehlásí. A klipově taktéž žádná sláva, ti lidé co pochodují tím blátem, kdo jsou zač? Kam jdou a odkud? A ta pozlacená slečna s miskami na prsou, co má symbolizovat, tu z toho textu? Proč tedy ti lidé v klipu? Dobře, spokojím se s vysvětlením že "devadesátky", a vlastně i docela rád na tu dobu při té písničce zavzpomínám, jistě radši než kapela sama.

So many subtle things going around. Not everything explained in your face. AOD has a very good story with poetic cutscenes and dialogues (non verbal ones too). And the way camera work is used here, beats the newest cinematic titles. I love this fucking game.

Bylo to tak dávno.

The way this scene teeters on the fine line between "creep sexually assaulting/taking advantage of a vulnerable woman" and "Man who is equally rogue as Lara giving her a taste of her own medicine, therefore producing a sexually charged mutual attraction" has always been really interesting to me. I really love from a narrative and artistic standpoint how it simultaneously manages to show this interaction from both perspectives. Lara goes from pissed the fuck off to being sort of humbled and impressed. There is definitely a male gaze aspect to the camera moving slowly across her, particularly when Kurtis drags his hand across her midriff and stomach instead of switching which hand he holds his pistol in so that he can throw her other pistol away without feeling her up. We are helped to a slow panning camera showing off Lara's assets, which... If we're being real, isn't really that new in Tomb Raider. So the game obviously panders to straight male players (who, let's face it-- are likely a majority of the fan base). The heroine is occasionally objectified, kind of obvious if you press the crouch button, or pay attention to the boob jiggle dynamics, aand the fact that she doesn't wear a sports bra. Like ever. Yet it also kind of appeals to straight women who are attracted to men, because Kurtis is designed to be fairly good looking, resourceful, clever and athletic. He's also designed to be as troubled as Lara, if you look into his backstory, and even if you just pay attentiont o his demeanor. He's rather jaded and traumatized like she is at this point in the Tomb Raider franchise. It's like Kurtis gets away with this transgression in the eyes of a lot of players, and in Lara's mind-- precisely because he is stereotypically attractive, and because he's one of the first people to ever get the drop on her. Which is sort of artfully true to life... Almost like a social commentary on how we let those who are sexy get away with being uncouth. The other thing is, Lara is one of the first subjectified and fleshed out video game protagonists who is a woman. Usually she has huge agency over her own body, and she calls the shots. She comes across as the most authoritative character in the room in almost every cutscene and her personality commands respect. There are few exceptions to this, like when she gets captured in TR3, or is a young girl studying under Von Croy in TR Revelations, where the voice acting almost implies an unhealthy pedophilic dynamic between him and 17 year old Lara. It might add some additional reason why she hates him in this game. (As if she needed more reasons) That's not to say Lara isn't without blame herself, I mean she literally spends most of the series robbing graves and shooting a lot of people dead, and some of those instances have been morally questionable. In AOD you can also choose to play her as a bit of a vengeful asshole, which I actually appreciate, because she is struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder from nearly having died because of Von Croy's actions. I really love this game for its flawed yet likeable protagonists. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
