The outside barrel has a small step at the top because it came off but I don't think that's because it happened to me again with the step. I mean it's like a picantini but on the other side the barrel is in the middle. You're absolutely right when it comes to the rush 72 bag where that waist belt rest on your body. For me the waist belt needs to ride right on the navel area to be comfortable no matter what weight I'm carrying. In my little hiking group we will often switch backpacks with other people in the group to see if maybe there is rides better feels better Etc. I've noticed that when I switch my Rush 72 with somebody that has larger than a 38 to 40 in waist they'll have difficulty and they'll complain about how it rides on them. My conclusion is that the rush series is more suited for more people that are younger and or in better physical condition. I'm Army 30 years retired, 69 years old, 5 ft 8 175 lb. Like I said earlier the rush 72 rides best on me when I can keep that Center Line that waist belt at my Naval area. Apologize for the rant but sometimes I get long-winded. Keep up your journey, and on a last note the rush 100 is an excellent bag.

Excellent presentation and advice. When I made my first survival kit back in the mid 70's I kept a bunch of quarters in a small 35mm film container just for payphones in case I needed to make an emergency call. That was 50 years ago. I also still have 2 original Leatherman Tools in separate emergency bags. Glad to see someone else still using them. Hey, they still work! Truckers are the backbone of this country. God be with you & travel safe. Happy Trails.

I have the rush 12 and 72 since 8 years! Been across the world with both, never had any issues! I really love the rush series! And will definitely buy a rush 72 in ranger green because it will match with with my 12! My rush 72 has still the of green color instead of the ranger green!

I wanted to post a second comment addressing weight loss. Whether for you or anyone else, I would strongly recommend a CARNIVORE DIET or a MODIFIED CARNIVORE. Why? Because by eliminating CARBS you will eliminate hunger. After about two weeks you'll have to remind yourself to eat. Add Intermittent Fasting and a 24-36 hr Fast once in a while, and your weight will melt off. What about energy, like for rucking or weight lifting? Low Carb diets will not allow you to sprint for very long or do a workout like Charles Staley's EDT. But you can still do HIIT for 15-20 min and hiking and rucking are usually fine. BTW, a Carnivore Diet means you're only getting 10 or less grams of Carbs a day. Maybe not even that. A Modified Carnivore Diet means you eat low-carb, non-starchy vegetables for the fiber . . . broccoli, cabbage, spinach, etc. A TRUE Carnivore Diet appears to help mostly those with stomach issue or allergies to food. The other 98% of us do just fine on mostly meat but allowing dairy and green leafy plants. 20 grams of Carbs a day appears to be the magic limit. The other tip I have is that it really doesn't matter how you get the weight off . . . just get it off. FORGET NUTRITION . . . GET THE WEIGHT OFF. So, for example, two Quarter Pounders and one large fries = 1500 calories. If your BMR + activity is around 2800 that's about a 10 pound/month weight loss . . . maybe more depending on activity. It's not the healthiest stuff you can eat but GETTING THE WEIGHT OFF is much more important than whatever nutritional issues you get from what you're eating for a few months. If you object to meat then make it rice and beans . . . or pancakes . . . or twinkies. Just eat less than you burn.

Thank you for an EXCELLENT review of the Rush 72. You're the only reviewer I've ever seen address the FIT. The Rush 72 is great in many ways, but it's simply not designed for larger folks. And I'm not even talking about burly or chubby . . . I mean TALL. If you try to get a pack fitted properly (like say at REI) they measure from the base of the neck to your lower back. Whatever that number is, is what will fit best on your torso. I wrote the 5.11 Tactical about this and eventually got an answer. I no longer have the email but as I remember it, the Rush 72 is built for 17-18" torsos. Anyone six feet or over will not be able to use the waist belt properly. Which doesn't mean you can't use the bag . . . but you won't be able to carry as much gear. And that's a problem because the Rush 72 is itself very heavy.

I can not stress enough about carrying a Trama Kit and a comprehensive medical kit. Blood loss and shock are very real, and you can die if you're not prepared. Always carry at least a litter of water. That should last you for a few days, and without it, you can die.

Being a Get Home Bag, I did not feel the need to address footwear. I do have a video on footwear. But be assured there are 2 "Two" pairs of Solomen boots and one pair of Rocky Kneehigh boots, all 3 Gortex, one pair of sketcher shoes, and a pair of leather flipflops in The truck.

This is exactly the video I was looking for, almost all the other videos on this pack talk about it mainly from a concealed carry point of view in regards to when you're out for a run you can carry your firearm and a phone or something, but what I would use it for is an emergency car kit that would sustain my "basic needs" for 24-72 hours if I need to hunker down somewhere or hike back to my home, like you said I wouldn't be comfortable or gain any weight during that time but it would do. In my opinion your particular configuration is a little to heavy on the medical side, an emergency is an emergency you're not trying to carry an entire hospital with you especially if you're not medically trained so all I personally carry is two chest seals, quick clot gauze, extra regular gauze, bleedstop powder, some boo-boo bandaid sh*t, and obviously a tourniquet. I would also keep the concealed carry compartment strictly for it's intended purpose since in an emergency situation you never know how other people are gonna react or where you're gonna have to hunker down if you're in the wild with animals and such. Much appreciated review

Haha. Been doing the cooler since 2008'ish? It allows me to drive a lighter truck,so I can pull heavier items. Some states charge .5 cent per mile per x amount over legal weight for "Single Trip Permits". So a 2k lb lighter truck= alot of money not spent. Thanks for the insight.

I am the guy that commented on your other video. Crazy thing is it showed up on my feed as a normal vid, not a live. Either way I am still on the fence. I have the entire RUSH series and both MOAB offerings from 5.11 and am a fan. I just don't know if those with the way they are designed have a place in my rotation just yet. I like how you use it for a ready bag. Thanks for sharing. How is the 72 working out for you? Take Care

I made a mistake of ignorance posting the 72 review initaly. I wanted to correct some of it. That said I still just dont know. Its really to big for me how I use it now,but its good enough I want to keep it if I need space. When I saw 2 people not chose it because of my review( I felt bad),,it prompted me to be more careful on how i post items here. So over all it has been a good thing. The quality was never an issue. I may look at the Moabs tho.

I guess you are speaking on the muslin. Living on the highway, it is a very good chance that I come across a crash with multiple people leaking fluids. Having 4 compression bandages in the same space as 1 Israeli means more people leak less. The sterile dressing is exactly the same. You just have to tie it instead of using a plastic keeper. Or a motorcyclist with 2 knees, 1 elbow and a fore arm laceration. Pretty sure they would be okay with a little hypocrisy if it keeps their life sauce inside them and not all over the street. But to be completely honest, I now carry a 72 liter bag in place of that 27 liter, so there is 2 Israeli along with 4 muslin, cause I don't like compromise.

Good stuff bro. I just about bought this bag today. I have the rush 12. And the rush 100. The 100 is a nice bag it doesn't have that back pocket that pushes the bag away from your back... But the 12 has that same stupid pocket and it does exactly what you said the 72 is doing. But probably worse because it's a shorter pack.
