Ive always believed that what made jotaro such a great character is the fact he was developed not throughout stardust crusaders but throughout the parts, you see him change alot. In part 3 he is that guy you dont fuck with or atleast he tries to be like that but thats a facade (I also like the theory that he only puts this act is because of japanese bullying). By the end of crusaders he lifts that facade to reveal a bit of his real side in DIU too. In part 4 hes traumatized but bottles his feelings away to prevent those memories of interfering with his life, probably why he never mentions Polnareff ever again or never contacts him. In part 6 he fully removes his tough guy act, he is fully accomplished although a bit weaker than before. He wanted to move on completely from the Dio Jojo feud but thats not something he effectively managed to do cause the influence of dio was popping everywhere at once. From the beginning all he wanted to do was protect his family and move away from all the conflict. No wonder its called the joestar curse

Gettting tired of Kazuto Kirigaya, let alone Jotaro Kujo here then again they're all cool, Asuna Yuuki, Touma Kamijou etc.. I don't care for Rei Skywalker from Star Wars I despise the series. Who else will get the titles Larry Stu and Mary Sue slapped onto them ? Yes I was born and diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome in UK hospitals. I'm in my thirties here irl

Stopping time does not strain Jotaro's heart. That's a complete fan invention with zero basis in canon. I heard that it's apparently because of people mixing Star Platinum's power with a similar character from Code Geass.

Jotaro is basically Clint Eastwood of the series. Araki was so inspired by his movies that he made an entire character out of it. What I like about Jotaro that he is a mature character and maintains that persona throughout his appearance, and unlike other anime protagonists, he doesn't have a weird childish quirk to set him "apart" or to make him "distinguishable". He is aloof but not callous, he is quiet but neither too nervous or smug. He is determined but does not scream or gets sudden character development syndrome to show it off, he stays in his character. He knows what danger he is in, but still he will stare him in the face. Shirou Emiya seemed to me this whole impulsive, annoying kid whose whole deal was his eighth grade syndrome of becoming "champion of justice" and will pit others as well as him in danger because of his impulsive behaviour, and on top of that will still have three (technically two) girls fauning on him. But if you understand his backstory of him having major survivor's guilt and his adult self and other heroes shaping his still immature view of the world, you'll begin to understand. Like that one time when Joseph, Jotaro and Polnareff having PTSD. But if you play all three routes and understand all their endings and watch Prisma Illya series, you will see him becoming more and more like Jotaro, I described here, kind, aloof, resolute, mature and more adept in battle. Shiki from Tsukihime is still on lines of that, trying to balance his normal life and madness his powers have him burdened him with. Jotaro, Giorno, Johnny, Shirou Emiya, Kiritsugu, Shiki, they are my favourite because they both try to understand what situation and world they live in, similarly, try to adapt and blend into it while maintaining their heavy ideals and ambitions and mature as time passes and become a better version of themselves and most importantly even after becoming all powerful, they only see themselves as another normal person, not some kind of god or demon king, their maturity and humbleness combined with each other each me every time.

This is kinda old, but another point I’d love to make is the responsibility Jotaro feels after the events in SDC. I mean specifically in moments where he needs to trust others. Two amazing scenes I think of are his scenes with Koichi during the Sheer Heart Attack arc and his first few scenes with Jolyne against Johngalli. When you first see how Jotaro refuses to let them help during these dire situations, one could just blow it off as him being the more experienced stand user. I like to think it’s deeper than that. Yes, he’s pushing these people away because he’s more experienced but it’s also because he loves them. It’s that responsibility he has that makes him feel like only HE can protect them. During the Sheer Heart Attack arc he’s constantly shoving Koichi to the side, both verbally and physically, and shows that he has little faith in Koichi’s skills, despite how much Koichi says he’s grown. Of course, Jotaro learns to acknowledge this and respect Koichi, but he also pulls the same thing on Jolyne. When they first encounter Johngalli’s stand, Jotaro is constantly pushing Jolyne aside. He wants to protect her of course, but it’s to the point where he belittles her abilities. The common factor in these two scenes is how Jotaro does not trust these people, who he loves, to protect themselves. He’s at that point where he can’t rely on anyone, and that’s forced him to have that experienced, protector role. It’s especially jarring to see him like this when he never acted like this during SDC. Jotaro had this sense of trust in all the crusaders, that they could protect themselves at any given moment. He didn’t need to protect them because he knew how powerful each and everyone was. He knew he could rely on them, and that they could rely on him. But that all changes AFTER his battle with DIO and loosing all those friends whom he thought so highly of. This really does show how much Jotaro suffers after the events of sdc and the effect it’s had on him and his relationship with others…

You know, something i did realize is a lot of this trauma hes gone through has like no outlet or any method to vent it out. With specifically the stand related stuff, unless someone was a stand user as well, they'd never believe him that all of this happened. All his friends at school just know he left for almost two months and came back super beat up. If he told them what happened they wouldnt believe him. So he had to hide it from them. He could talk to his mom sure, but theres only so much talking to one person can do. Hell if he went to a therapist he couldnt get anywhere. Whats he supposed to say to a therapist about it all? They'd likely call bullshit and put on his record hes a Pathological liar instead of understanding what hes trying to say. So of course his only outlet comes in the form of violence against other people, primarily stand users but it can happen to basically anyone he knows too

Jotoro Kujo, specifically from part 3 is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction for the simple fact that he is the model man. He is physically strong, very intelligent, and incredibly stoic, which are all traits I think every man should try to improve upon in their lives. A lot of people who criticize his character say things like "He isn't relatable" but the simple fact is, he isn't meant to be. Jotoro's character isn't someone you relate to, he's someone you look up to. I really don't understand this obsession with writers trying to make their protagonist "relatable" anyway, it's like they think if the main character is too cool he'll make the audience insecure about the traits they don't have. Jotoro figuring out that the captain was a fake, beating both D'Arby brothers at their own game, and defeating a time stopping vampire was some of the most masculine shit I have ever seen. His ability to keep his cool in life or death situations at the age of 17 was something I wish I had. I heard a lot of people say they like him better in part 4 but I just don't get it. To me stardust crusaders Jotoro was peak Jotoro and his later counterparts were lesser versions of him.

In part 4 Jotaro finally seems like a real person and a proper character. In part 6 it’s shown just how much there is behind that stoic demeanour - Jotaro is a traumatised man and it’s hard for him to show how deeply he cares for people around him. With him being established as a man who never looses his cool and is able to face any danger showing no fear, seeing Jotaro out of all people scream in terror in the final battle in Stone Ocean is utterly disturbing and it makes the scene far more impactful. Meanwhile in part 3 Jotaro has one damn character trait, he’s just edgy and cool and that’s it. It’s not something to look up to, life is not an anime and if anything, building your character around a “cool” anime protagonist is a sign of insecurity. Just get some balls so your masculinity so fragile doesn’t get hurt by a character being thoughtfully written instead of being edgy for the sake of it.

@@user-po9sd8nq8v "Just get some balls so your masculinity so fragile doesn't get hurt by a character being thoughtfully written instead written instead of being edgy for the sake of it." Lmfao, please proof read before you post bro. Like I said Jotoro was one one of my favorite fictional characters because of his masculinity and I have no problem with him showing emotion or caring about others. Those are traits of a good man and they are also things that part 3 Jotoro had. I'm really tired of femboys calling part 3 Jotoro "edgy" edgy is an atheist teenager wearing cutoff jeans who hates his parents and smokes pot while wearing eyeliner and listening to rock music and Jotoro ain't that. Just because Jotoro acted tough and kept his emotions in check doesn't mean he had no emotion. A man learning to control his emotions is a very important trait to have. It really seems like the average anime watcher struggles with this very thing. If when Jotoro faced D'Arby he started to crack all of his friends souls would have been turned to chips and his mother would have died and if Jotoro just broke down crying Infront of Dio because, kakyoin and his grandfather got killed what do you think would have happened? My main problem with part 4 and 6 Jotoro isn't that Jotoro shows emotion it's that he seems weaker overall. And really Gtfoh with that fragile masculinity bullshit, only women and cucks with no balls use such insults. I bet your one of those guys that likes Deku from My Hero Academia...

I have a degree in psychology, so I feel like I have a decent bit to add to your points. The reason not having a father figure growing up is detrimental to boys in particular is they have no one to teach them "how to be a man", and so they have to go seeking out that knowledge, which they can get from less than ideal sources. Another person who commented on this video by the name of Lonestar dullahan also pointed out that as a half white have Japanese kid in the 70s/80s, jotaro was very likely an outcast, so he might not have even had an actual person to learn how to be a man from, he might have relied on those Clint Eastwood movies for that knowledge, and of course movies aren't gonna show you how a man acts in day to day life, how to be kind yet strong, how to let people know what your feeling in a healthy way. All jotaro would have seen is the violence and and cussing and being rude to everyone and seeing all that portrayed as cool and badass. He would have been like "ok, that's what a man is like" and thus started to emulate it. And the movies never show the hero dealing with abandonment issues or the inner termoil and anger in a healthy way, or in any way that's not punching something, so jotaro learned to just bottle his emotions away, where they would sit under the surface, festering and multiplying. He puts up the front of the cool badass because nothing bothers the cool badass. If he's the cool badass then no one is gonna hurt him like his dad hurt him by never being there. Deep down, he's just a scared kid desperate to escape the pain. And then he's forced into what at first glance would seem like the very situation that the movies would prepare him for, an adventure that will be solved through violence in order to save the person he loves most. And it's nothing like the movies. The poor kid must be terrified, having superpowered adults try to kill you every other damn day. But he can't let on that he's scared, because if he admits that he's scared, then all the emotions he's been bottling up for years will come bursting out like a river breaking down a dam. So he falls back on what the movies taught him. He answers with violence and a "badass" oneliner. But there is one saving grace for jotaro on this journey. Or rather, 4. Kakyoin, avdol, polnareff and Joseph. Kakyoin becomes the friend jotaro never let himself have back home because he had to keep up the facade of the badass loner. Polnareff teaches him that men dont take their aggression out on women, but instead seek to protect them. Avdol showed him that you can be the stoic badass without being an asshole. They both taught him that emotions are not weakness, but the center of the man's being. And Joseph, sweet, loving Joseph. Joseph challenged jotaro's shitty behavior without being an overbearing dick, showed jotaro genuine love and affection, built jotaro up by praising his accomplishments, showed jotaro that the silent badass isn't the only thing a man can be (by being the most expressive, emotional, and downright goofiest of the stardust crusaders while still having his badass moments), and ultimately was fully prepared to and damn near did give his life to protect jotaro. They were the role models and the friends that jotaro needed. His walls slowly started to come down, even enough for him to show them his cigarette trick, which was probably a big risk in his eyes because a lot of people would have found it stupid and the crusader's ridicule would have absolutely destroyed jotaro emotionaly. And then they started dying one by one, just as they were teaching him the lessons he desperately needed and wanted. It's no wonder he never used his time stop unless he had to, any reminder of DIO would be not only terrifying, but a reminder of everything that was snatched away from him just as he realized he needed it. But the crusader's example still inspired jotaro to put the work in and unlearn his toxic behavior and start to better himself. He stopped being a dick to women for the most part, he was much less rude, cussed way less, and even started trying in school to the point where this once barely passing delinquent became a Doctor of marine biology. but I think you were right in suggesting that the encounters with kira triggered his ptsd from the battle with dio, which caused him to make the same decision his father probably did. Since it was never suggested that his father abandoned him and holly, and holly never mentioned having gotten a divorce, I would guess that jotaro's father made the decision a lot of father's have to make. Sacrificing his relationship with his child in order to make the money to support them. And jotaro sacrificed his relationship with jolyne to keep her safe. And I think he understood that. He doesn't get angry with jolyne when she goes off on him in part 6. He doesn't even try to defend himself. He recognizes the anger he once felt in jolyne. The son has become the father. But he also is able to partially mend his relationship with jolyne by relying on the lessons that Joseph taught him. He always protected jolyne, even when it almost cost him his life. Even if he had to sacrifice the universe to do it. Honestly, laid out like that, jotaro's story is almost a Greek tragedy in a way
