Maybe this is a dumb question coming from a film stills point of view but how is the film loaded without it being fully exposed when opening?
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin Жыл бұрын
It was just a demonstration by an expired film roll. The loading should be taken in total darkness.

I actually like this type of film magazine over the Arricam ones. You just have to worry about one side at a time and seems more compact.

Beautiful, thanks! This is not that important, but if your closeup angle at 1:24 was from your POV side, it wouldn't be confusing, because of the rotation direction. The only way to find out is by comparing where the emulsion side is, so we can make sense of where it's rotating towards. If you follow camera angle techniques for continuity, then that issue is resolved. I know we also need to see from the other side, but that angle may need a connecting angle between both shots.

Many thanks for this. I was trying to ascertain if the Arri IIc employs a register pin(s) movement, as this did not seem evident from the shots of the gate detail.

How many fps, shutter speed and lens options does it have? Also what year was it made?
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin 3 жыл бұрын
The Arriflex 35BL was built between 1972 and 1975, it has a 180° rotating mirror shutter that means 1/48 sec shutter speed at 24fps. The highest frame rate is 100 fps (1/200 sec) The Camera has Arri steel bayonet lens mount and external blimps for certain lenses, like the Zeiss Super Speed Primes.

I suppose that this entire process has to be done by touch alone in a pitch black darkroom or Paterson changing bag to prevent exposing and ruining the entire film reel? What is the diameter in centimetres of a film magazine that can fit a 1000 foot 35 mm film reel?
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin 3 жыл бұрын
Yes Michael, you are right. The unexposed site should be loaded in total darkness. The loop and the take up roll can be treated in a lighted environment. The removal, however, happens again in the darkness. The diameter of a 400 foot reel is exactly 19 cm the 1000 foot is almost 30 cm, I can't say more precisely.

Could you tell me how expensive the developing and scanning is for one roll of film?
@entity9742
@entity9742 4 ай бұрын
@advancedmicrosystems4658 well 35mm should be similar to 16mm film but i gather this uses either 1000ft or 400ft reels so probably 60-100$ development and scanning

I shouldn't, you said it. The Arriflex 35 BL is a professional film camera, it exposes light-sensitive material. When someone picks up such a device, they have to be familiar with a complicated manufacturing process. In this case it goes without saying that the material must be handled in complete darkness.

What BL stands for,?
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin
@FilmakademieKelleBerlin 4 жыл бұрын
The fundamental problem of the cine camera was the noise of the mechanic were soon solved with new camera casings, known as "blimps". The Arriflex BL is the first self blimped camera, designed with its own low noise body. BL stands for the abbreviation of Blimp.
