Bette's remarkable recovery from TWO strokes was due to 1) excellent care she received from her assistant; and 2) her indomitable will. My mother had a catastrophic brain hemorrage, and her prognosis was terrible. She lived nearly 10 years until age 91 due to her will to live and excellent care. Let that be a lesson. Doctors are wrong all the time.

Thank you for posting this rare interview. Black aka Colin was my favourite artist. Met him a few times and was very starstruck. I think he was sick of signing all my Black albums and CD singles! Favourite gigs were his comedy tour at the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham and his Are we having fun yet one off gig at the Jazz Cafe in Camden. Sorely missed.

I read an interview of his in one of the tabloids in the early Eighties in which he told of the night he was waiting for a taxi home in London, and two black guys walked past him, stopped and turned around, leaving Davidson suddenly feeling as though he was in a great deal of trouble. One of these guys asked him if he were Jim Davidson off the television, and there was a moment in which he wondered if he should run or say "no". He eventually said "yes, it's me", at which point one of the guys put his hand out, which Davidson expected to have a knife in it. However it was merely the guy putting his hand out for a shake, and the big lad said "I'm West Indian, and your impression is hilarious". They supposedly walked away leaving Davidson feeling a bit better about how "Chalky" was received.
