"If you are a Digital Marketing professor and you are not giving this gift to your students you are doing a disservice to them." Wow, power statement from Ryan Russell!😀

SINCE THIS LESSON IS FROM 7 YEARS AGO Here’s a summarized breakdown of the key points from the lesson “Keyword Research 101 - Part 1” by George Do, adjusted for today’s SEO keyword research landscape: Key Learning Points: 1. Purpose of Keyword Research: • The goal is to find relevant keywords that drive traffic to your website, primarily for SEO, not paid ads. • Keyword research should align with your overall business objectives and target search intent. 2. Types of Keywords: • Search Intent: It’s critical to understand the user’s intent behind each search. Keywords can be informational, navigational, transactional, or commercial. • Search Funnel Stages: • Awareness: General searches like “What is coffee?” (for informational purposes). • Consideration: More specific, such as “Best coffee beans brand” (researching options). • Purchase: Transactional searches like “Buy coffee beans online” (users ready to buy). • Loyalty: Brand-related searches for repeat customers (e.g., “Starbucks coffee beans”). 3. Seed Keywords and Long-Tail Keywords: • Start with broad seed keywords (e.g., “trekking poles”) and expand them into long-tail keywords (e.g., “ultralight trekking poles with camera mount”). • Long-tail keywords are crucial for targeting niche audiences and have lower competition but higher conversion rates. 4. Tools and Methods for Expanding Keywords: • Use tools like Google Auto Suggest and Amazon Auto Suggest to find related long-tail keywords. • Explore competitor analysis by examining smaller e-commerce websites in your niche to find untapped keyword opportunities. 5. Authority Sites and Niche Research: • Identify authority sites (e.g., blogs or forums like Reddit or Quora) in your industry. These are excellent sources for finding keywords and learning customer pain points. • Research products and keywords that match what users are discussing on these platforms (e.g., whether people prefer “anti-shock trekking poles” or “carbon fiber poles”). 6. Competitor Analysis: • Examine smaller competitors instead of giants like Amazon or Walmart for realistic keyword targeting opportunities. • Look at how smaller sites are structuring their URLs, headers, and content to target specific keywords successfully. 7. Practical Application: • Use forums, Reddit, and Quora to not only find keywords but also understand the problems or features customers care about. These insights can help tailor your product and marketing strategy. Updates for Today’s Market: • Voice Search: More people are using voice assistants (e.g., “Alexa” or “Google Assistant”). Incorporate natural, conversational phrases in your keywords (e.g., “Where can I buy organic coffee beans near me?”). • Mobile Optimization: Ensure that the keywords you target reflect mobile search behavior, which is often shorter and more location-based. • Intent-Driven Content: Google now heavily focuses on user intent and contextual relevance. Instead of keyword stuffing, focus on providing value and answering user queries in-depth. • AI and NLP (Natural Language Processing): Tools like ChatGPT are influencing search patterns. Look for AI-driven insights into trending keywords based on current user behaviors. • Social Media Trends: Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest have search engines of their own. Keywords on these platforms, especially for e-commerce, should include hashtags and visually relevant terms (e.g., “minimalist trekking poles”). Modern SEO Tools: • Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs still remain useful, but more advanced tools like Surfer SEO, SEMrush, and Ubersuggest can provide real-time keyword performance data. • Search Volume and Difficulty: Use up-to-date SEO tools that now emphasize search difficulty scores, helping you target keywords that are easier to rank for but still valuable. This lesson serves as a great foundation, but integrating modern tools, optimizing for voice and mobile, and adapting to Google’s evolving algorithms are crucial for success in today’s SEO landscape.

lots of good information but man, with her high pitched and fast talking accented voice, it was really hard to focus on what she was saying; I had to backtrack several times.

infographics are great content? and good luck involving all the teams in a corporate setting, it'll take months to get a tweet approved. just provide value, educate, entertain, create an emotional connection. you don't need to involve every department to accomplish that, that's why you're in marketing and they aren't

I was recently assigned this video in a college marketing course and found it very helpful but note it is 8 years old. So don't bother to to the landing page mentioned in the video, ironically, because the free download worksheets and eBook all go to 404 errors or deleted pages.
