This is in NH just east of Lake Winnipesaukee on the south eastern end of the lake

Great video! If I am not mistaken I've seen you fly over Poplar Island before. Can't wait to come back for my commercial cross-country.

I’ve been there one or two other times but usually don’t get up that way very often since Lake Winnepesaukee is so busy in the summer. But I’m moving closer this year which will make it more accessible.

Yes you did. I just flew to Ohio to visit my mother.

@@greatwhiteph aha!!!. I was on the lake hoping to get a good photo of an eagle and a biplane flys over. I took a couple of pics & did some research. If you want, I could send them to you.

I assume that running up on the beach was because the sand was likely too soft to taxi out of the water? Are there other choices if there had been more waves or you were some place with a stronger current or tides (like tying up to a buoy or anchoring)? Also, it seems like with the biplane design tying up to a dock could be difficult?
@greatwhiteph3 жыл бұрын
I added power and rammed up on the beach because the wind started pushing the tail to the right and I was concerned I would hit the boat to the left. It wasn't until after the fact that I realized the wind had turned the plane, but would have blown us away from the boat, not towards it. Lesson learned. Yes, the bi-wing design limits docking ability. So either tying to a mooring, using a boat ramp or beaching/anchoring are the viable options. Some people have build special docks that will accommodate the design at their homes. Most flying boats have a similar issue because they have a sponson hanging down, so the issue is not unique to this plane and many docks have pylons that stick up which would also be an issue for all except for planes on floats.

Pilot flying is a bit twitchy on the controls, but great video!

It was my transition training and there was a lot to get used to with this airplane. Low seating position and relative position to landing surface, right hand on stick vs left on yoke, and reverse throttle as well, adding power plane noses down vs nosing up in conventional tractor motor position, and water vs land.

Thanks for sharing your fun. I did a demo flight in one last year. Great airplane. Did you consider a SeaRey? What tipped the scale for you? Keep the videos coming.

I did consider the Searey, but didn't care for it's looks. It was a hard decision, but so far loving the Super Petrel.
@mattgeans37584 жыл бұрын
@@greatwhiteph Seems like Searey wings would through the craft around quite a bit with that almost hand glider wing profile. Wish there was an amphib that had a step outside of the door - something you could climb on if you were to take a dip. Like A5, but not that large. Was wing construction one of the considerations? if you had to ingress from the water, like needed to get a bunch of weeds off the undercarriage before retracting, do you climb on lower wing then step into cockpit? Lastly, is this s constant speed prop with reverse or fixed pitch? might be dumb question if it is categorized LSA, but could be registered differently.
@greatwhiteph4 жыл бұрын
@@mattgeans3758 LSA currently are not allowed to have constant speed prop. If that changes in the future it would be an awesome upgrade. Also would allow for reverse. My partner has gone swimming and has had people swim over to the plane and climb in, but this would work best in my opinion if you were in shallow water like a sand bar and you were able to climb back in easier. You can climb in easily in shallow water. No, you do not climb on the lower wing for entry, but can use it climb in. Some type of rope ladder over the side might work. We haven't had it long enough to try something there. Most hulls do not have something to step on like the Icon A5. There were many consideration regarding choosing a plane. LSA vs traditional plane, new vs old, useful load, dockable or not, strength of manufacturer, overall cost of ownership.

Great video. How much to get your license for this plane?
@greatwhiteph4 жыл бұрын
This is an LSA (light sport aircraft), so it requires less investment than you need to get your private pilot license, but I would expect it would cost about $4000-6000 to get your LSA license.
