It's funny how the most uncivilised call others "uncivilised", English to the aboriginals, Romans to my ancestry, the Celts

Great video. Very informative. Thanks for creating. Currency debasement is still happening today but it's done gradually so people don't notice it. Bitcoin solves this problem as it has a fixed supply.

What a great video! So hard to find content on culture and society instead of wars and kings. And culture and society (long history) matter far more, in my opinion. Of course it`s important to know when a newly appointed king imposes Christian law, but to understand the world before that is even more important. The balancing out of information to avoid generalizations and romantization was very well done as well. I'm a history major, but I'm from South America, so I haven't really learned any of this in school or college. This gave me a nice starting point for further (casual) research.

Misogyny- killing women for millennia. Such a tragic history. I’m a practicing witch, and I am grateful that I live in a time where I’m not afraid I’ll be killed for admitting that. Of course, these women weren’t practicing witches, they were as you said, scapegoats and victims of misogynistic attitudes. Even so, I don’t go around announcing my spiritual practices to anyone unless I know they’re open minded because I live in Texas, USA, and we’re flooded with evangelicals here. But, while I could lose a job, I wouldn’t be in fear for my life if my neighbors found out. Excellent video. I hadn’t really understood what motivated the persecution of these individuals in this time and place. Thanks for sharing your research with us!

Thank you very much for this, as well as other, very well-researched, nicely narrated and engaging videos. I love how they show a side of history we don't see or hear about often. As someone who is not particularly interested in wars and territorial aspects of historical movements, I find your videos very enjoyable. I only have one friendly suggestion: It would help a lot if you could manually add CCs, because although you speak clearly and I am fluent in English, some words and names (especially foreign ones) I wouldn't know how to spell, or they sound a lot like English words unless they appear on screen which makes it a tad confusing. Again, thank you very much for your great content, please keep it up! I would love to see your channel blessed by the algorithm.❤

The curse of the Stuart monarchs on England and Wales The Stuarts were superstitious, devine right obsessed accustomed to the feudal clan system and unaccustomed to the Common Law , and a parliament with teeth and financial oversight. Interesting history of the sad victimisation of women by a bisexual King.

As well as an interesting event of England, I also learned that 'plot' has the meaning of 'conspiracy' and 'forge' has the meaning of 'counterfeit'. It's a very good source to study English. :)

It's interesting that the Roman account of multiple men having many wives is from a male perspective. If the children are considered a member of the mother's tribe (or House ), that could also be a matrilineal culture. In some matriarchal societies, men are chiefs and warriors , which to an outsider might seem like women hold lower status, but important decisions are made by the women. Who decides the dispersement of food? Who decides who the chiefs are? Who creates the clothes and who figures out what plants are medicine? Often these aspects of life are ignored by the invading armies or missionaries, but they are incredibly important for a community.

This is what is so interesting to think about when exploring pre-Roman Britain. There are so many high status burials which contain biological females which to me highlight the power that they had in Celtic society. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

The second part of Julius Caesar's comments concerning British marriage arrangements can be interpretated as a monogamous one: 1. children were to be identified with the family group (household) of the husband. 2. That a brother-in-law, father-in-law or the deceased husband's male cousins had a right to marry the widow or if legally separated.

This revolt could have been bad for Rome if a few more of their allies had switched sides, but Rome was at its most powerful period during this time so I've no doubt they would have just sent more troops in time. Another great video!

The Roman military machine was (at least from the mid to late Republic to maybe somewhere after the 3rd century crisis) an absolute juggernaut. You could destroy one army completely but then you would have to face another and another and another until you were annihilated or you simply gave up from attrition and exhaustion. And the military was not complete without the engineering, support and logistics branches, and when facing all of them combined usually it meant you could count on losing the war. Excellent video!
