Did anyone try to play with C minor harmonica (instead of Bb). I understand that we lose some notes (especially bending ones), but it looks much easier to start

The master that taught us all how to play harmonica but never knew. There's something special that

Ya gotta bend that 2-hole to get the minor 3rd. If you don't bend it, you go straight to the major 4th, when playing C-minor with Bb harp. But in the middle of the harp, and in the upper register, it's all laid out for all the blues notes, like the minor 3rd, the 4th, 5th*, and minor 7th, which is a basic blues scale. Learn to noodle on those notes. (* You can get the flat 5th by bending the 5th down.) The old standard "Summertime (and the livin' is easy)" song is standard practice for learning to play the harp in this position. The trickiest bit is on the line "and the cotton's high." The word "high" which is kind of a 5-note lick, requires good technique. I used this position for a lot of minor blues, although regular cross harp is also fine for minor blues, if you bend the 3-hole for that minor 3rd in the lower register. I never got cross harp to hit that minor 3rd in the middle register, but some off the better players can hit it by overblowing, which I can only seem to get to work in the top register, for instance that song by Magic Dick, "Whammer Jammer."
