No state has experienced a cost of living rise like Florida the last 10 years. Many like to point to the rise in housing costs, and they have a good starting point. However, most commodities and services in the state have also risen more than most states. Factor in the property taxes, property and flood insurance and it's quite ugly. So glad we did our homework and rented before pulling the trigger on a retirement move to SW Florida five years ago. The writing was on the wall at that point but has become increasingly worse. Factor in the ancient infrastructure, crime, traffic, corruption at all government levels and you really have to wonder what is going on.

For a lot of reasons we stayed put in the Mid Atlantic region. Spend winters in SW Florida (rent). Did buy a second home in the "North Country" of NY where we spend June through October on the St Lawrence River. Yes taxes are high in NY but home prices in this region of NY are ridiculously inexpensive. When we do decide to sell our house we will likely buy a place in the Carribean.

I have also considered the idea of moving to a place with lower cost of living like Costa Rica but I wouldn't feel safe or that I have any rights in a foreign country. Also, I don't want to treated as an "outsider". It's likely I'll remain in the USA 🌏 God Bless America!

this is not accurate.... the larger fees (after the $227 and $32) are not MANDATORY for Horizons homeowners, as the added cost for our amenities may increase when built (probably up to mid 200's), the larger $2,000 fees you describing are for the larger SC amenities center OUTSIDE of Horizons (not the one you pointed to) which they MUST join, but is optional for us (and we won't need it because we will have our own). Most good communities that have HOAs in the area are often MUCH higher for much less. It's fine sharing info, but don't scare older people away from a 55+ community that could serve other needs a single, private retirement home cannot, plus the greater community of people that live similarly and will make them feel safe. Scare tactics are a NEGATIVE professional approach to real estate.

Hey Jon, I'm not sure if you watched it all the way through but this is definitely not a scare tactic. Perhaps the thumbnail was created in way to boost views (but every KZbinr does that). I presented the fees to help potential buyers understand them. Horizons is a lovely community and I've created plenty of videos promoting their houses. The houses are to big. Who wants to clean those houses and they are retired? 2) second floor - more alder you are, more difficult will be to climb 3) HOA fees?

We live in Horizons. I'm not sure where you got that list of events or multiple pictures of no one in the community but you really should be a little more forthcoming in your advertising. Do we have a great community? Yes! Do we have a lot of HOA and neighbor hosted events? Yes! Does your 4 minute video reflect anything about what Horizons truly is? NO!

Hey Tony, yes they allow dogs of any size and there is a dog park onsite. I'd have to double check but I recall pit bull breeds may not be allowed. Are you planning on moving to SC or do you already live here?

@@TonyD-q4h Hey Tony, it might be a good time to place your home on the market now because the mortgage rates may be dropping and if it doesn't end up selling, then relisting it next year. That way you have two chances to sell because we never know how the mortgage rates & economy will look like next year... just a suggestion :)

@Moving.To.Charleston trust me, if I could move tomorrow, I would. But I'm in the middle of finishing my basement to get more money or at least save the equity I have built up if the market goes down. Everything has gotten so expensive it's taken me longer than expected.

Is that $2000 icon and club membership new? We’re looking in this neighborhood for awhile and this is not a thing heard. There is a summers corner water park and club that members have to join and has been mistaken for the horizons club
