How did it hold up, is it durable? You said you applied it to that piece that already had some sheen to it, have you tried it on untreated wood to see how much sheen it actually gives?
@MyLifecraftАй бұрын
I haven’t tried it on unfinished wood, but it definitely makes the finish noticeably smoother, and I haven’t noticed any light scratches in the epoxy since I’ve applied it. It does seem to add a bit of extra strength from light scratching.

Did you ever cut a miter slot for the fence? Also, just a suggestion--put a coat of paste wax on top of your polyurethane finish to help protect it. It will also keep it nice and slick...and paste wax is cheap so you can always apply more + it repels dust so it will be even easier to clean when you're finished cutting.
@MyLifecraft4 ай бұрын
No miter slot. the whole table is adjustable back and fourth incase the fence is off.
@Rebel96684 ай бұрын
Nice build, but a lot more than I am capable of as I have neither a planer, nor a jointer as yet. I'll have to stick with building a table from 2 pieces of mdf for now, glued together and then worry about a fence afterwards. Right now I'm still in the process of tearing down my RAS and it's cabinet stand and refurbishing them. I have the cabinet stand finished, the base in rust converter primer and the saw, post and arm all apart waiting on cleaning, new bearings, new wiring, wire wheeling the bare metal parts before clear coating them (pawl, thumbscrews, handle rods, etc) and priming and painting the saw (yoke motor, etc.) and arm. The post will stay just as it is because it is cadmium coated from the factory for lubrication and that stuff is toxic, though I will clean it with wd-40 and shop towels. It's an ancient old DeWalt MB RAS made in 1956, but it's built like a tank.

Hey buddy, I’m making a top for my 40 inch box but I need to round the front edges. Any idea how I should do that
@MyLifecraft6 ай бұрын
Yeah absolutely, there are several ways to make a round over. You can use a round over bit with a router, you can make the round over by hand by sanding it down, or you can bevel it with a chisel, and then sand it to a round over.

Yeah I’m not sure exactly what type of polycarbonate it is, I got it for free from a construction company that was tossing them. I was originally going to use them as windows for wood projects, but the protective plastic cover was baked onto the sheets.

@@MyLifecraft After yours I watched a lot of videos and yandexed the theme and found that lexan can be 80 to 160 MPa Brinell hard and impact strength is 20-140kJoules/m2. Whereas acrylic is 120-180 hard and 1,8-18 kJ/m2 imapact strength . Most pistol rated glass have lexan-acrylic-lexan structure - it is sen because acrylic makes "stars" around a bullet while lexan makes little round trace. PS So sorts are very important for lexan

you can probably do it with as little as a skillsaw, and small joiner, or hand plain. Alternatively, many cities and towns have local woodshops that will rent out their shops per hour.

, should cut on the pull stroke. Nice looking table
@Talbert61 Жыл бұрын
Nice table but why are you cross cutting the boards backwards? The cut should come pulling the blade from back to front not pushing the blade from front to back.
@MyLifecraft Жыл бұрын
Thanks. It’s to prevent the blade from climbing on the wood and stalling the motor which has happened plenty of times, then I have to wait 30 minutes before resetting the motor, not to mention ruining the wood. Also when cutting larger pieces of wood there is little to no risk of the wood kicking upward, especially on a smaller 10” blade like this one, with very little horsepower. I’ve found it to be mostly a myth, at least for smaller RAS.
