Was on the front of the mountains above the San Gabriel Valley couple days ago. HUGE acorns everywhere. Plenty of deer and bear tracks on the dirt road I was on. No animals to be found. Have hunted locally on and off for years. My hat is off to anyone that harvests a deer in A31 or D11, especially a buck.

It would be nice if you could bring your shots in closer. If you could get all your shots into the center of the red circle in a nice little dime size work towards that . A quarter size group would be a good start. Good luck with learning your Thompson Contender . You may have to look at some old silhouette shooting and look at their handloads. Good luck enjoy. I do like the compensator on the end of it regardless, what anybody says makes it more pleasant to shoot.

With a short eye relief like that you will have to change your shooting all together, bad thing about this, but first yea you can shoot like that, but who wants to? Leupold knew you should have longer eye relief to get your gun at arms length, but it is problem finding good pistol scopes any more, all companies are worried about making red dots. Myself never would a rifle scope go on hand gun, it creates problems hunting, but if shooting from table and bag and that 's what you enjoy it be fine, is a very fine gun got great finish for me I'd get longer eye relief, if no other reason, teaching a young boy to shoot, handguns are arms out not arms in and head in, young boy going from that 243 no recoil to a 308 with recoil using same hold going to get hit and could be life changing. JUST SAYING
@kerrymackey2 жыл бұрын
With 40+ years of shooting & hunting experience I've observed that every hunter has a different style & preference of how he / she holds their weapon of choice. As for short and long eye relief scopes on handguns... I have both for a variety of choices in hunting positions. As for a rifle scope on a handgun for hunting, to each his / her own preference. I have 4 boys and they have all shot my scoped handguns and non scoped handguns with no issues, including my scoped .308 from the age of 10 ... they are now 12, 15, 16 &. 21. Handgun hunting is not always, "arms out not arms in and head in"... hunting doesn't always give you that position. But to each his / her own.

Your pellet count is going to go DOWN from a 1/2 ounce of 9s to 11/16 ounce of 4s...by A LOT. There are 576 #9 lead pellets per ounce, or 288 pellets in the 2.5" .410 load and only 134 #4 lead per ounce, or only 92 pellets in the .410 3" load. Why would you think #4s would pattern (that's what a shot pattern is called, not a grouping), anywhere close to a load with almost THREE TIMES the number of pellets in it? A 3" 11/16 ounce load of lead 6s will give you over 60 more pellets and will kill to 30 yards with authority.
@kerrymackey4 жыл бұрын
And your point is what? I would submit for those of us who pattern / group cartridges, reload, etc... are aware of loads, case length, pellet count, etc... I also know from experience of shooting hundreds of rounds through this .410 that it likes and dislike certain brands, shells construction, loads, and pellet counts. Therefore, the test to determine what was the best fit for my mission, which is squirrel / turkey hunting. Regardless of a 3" 11/16 ounce #6 having 60 more pellets, if those 60 pellets fall outside the max diameter spread for my desired mission, they are a non lethal entity... which do not help me. As for pattern vs. grouping ... one round fired on target from a shotgun is a pattern for that specific round... if I put more than one round fired on target from a shotgun using the same ammunition, I've created a group... That is what it's called !!!

I've shot 18 head of big game with various Contender pistols and big-bore revolvers. I have never needed more than a 2X scope. I took my Elk at 125 yards, a Bison at 90 yards, and a Fallow Deer at 95-100 yards. I would never want my eye that close to the scope. It limits you to the positions you can shoot from. Sometimes you must shoot fast with no support so 2X is perfect, and the eye relief is quite generous.
@kerrymackey4 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your big game success. As I have several handgun setups for several different missions this particular setup serves me well on varmints beyond 400 yards in a variety of positions. As for "must shoot fast", I choose not to. If I ever feel rushed on a shot, I will just choose not to take the shot and wait for another opportunity.

Pistol is wonderful out to 500-600 yards?? I call total BS! Even in a TC you'd be lucky to get hits at that range even if you were plinking multiple rounds vs actual hunting with single shots. And there is no difference between a G20 and G40 in width? They are exactly the same. There may be a little difference in length and weight but the width is identical. Lost all credibility with that one...

I might recommend you look into Handgun Hunters and Specialty Pistols FB page... we have many of the guys on there shooting prairie dogs with their handguns out to 1200+ yards... as well as big game past 500. The Wyoming Handgun Hunt and Steel Challenge in the summers has 30+ shooters shooting long range with ease. My TC in 308 (video on my KZbin Channel) has a Leupold with CDS turrets that allow me to dial in to 600 yds w/ 1 MOA with complete confidence. Long Range Handgun Hunting has been around for decades... So, before you call BS ... I recommend you do more research. Regards, Pastor Kerry.

@@kerrymackey Didn't mean to come across like such an asshat. Apologies first off. I did check out your videos and you do have a nice TC in 308. I also have a TC Pro Hunter rifle with a Leupold VX3 6.5X20X50mm with turrets capable of dialing in to 600+ yards but can't even see that far even with a 20X scope. I have a seen plenty of videos of long range rifle hunting but very rarely do I see any out past 500 yards. While I'm sure it's possible to hit targets out to 1200 yards I'd love to see the proof. Post some videos of your 600 yard shots with that pistol. And even better post some of the guys hitting prairie dogs at 1200+ yards.
