It works, but there are some things You need to remember to make it work, without that PSScriptPad, that is, using Windows Form control. 1) Remember to save the Form before You close it, all the time, every time You do design changes or edit properties. 2) Look in You File Explorer and confirm that there is a .designer.ps1 file there, corresponding to the name You originally gave Your file, so if Your file is named 'Form1.ps1", there should be another file now in the same folder, named 'Form1.designer.ps1' 3) Always refer to controls on Your form in the PowerShell action functions using dollar sign and form name, that is, if You have a label on Your form 'Form1.ps1' named 'label1', the reference to it will be $Form1.label1 inside the functions. 4) An extra tip for beginners is that You do not drag and drop controls, and you do not dbl click to get a control onto the form, You select the control from the list, then move the mouse pointer into the form and do a single, left click. 5) Be very careful when changing the names of the Form and the controls, as VS Code / PowerShell do not interactively change the code to be consistent with what You have done in the Form designer. If You do changes, then You have to do changes both in the design AND in the PowerShell script. 6) Dbl clicking on a form control makes a new click event function inside the PowerShell script. Inside this function, You can place the code that gets fired up when the control is clicked. You can make custom events, triggered by control/form interactions too, but I haven't looked so much into that yet. This was new for me today, and I have only worked with PowerShell for less than a week, but will be exploring some more of this and maybe make a clip about it in a week or so. Hope this helps.

Why make videos without detailing the process for new install and whats needed to create the project. Clearly the issue with the code-behind file is common but no one ever tackled this. Wasted time!

many people asking question - why they dont have that option - form designer? its because in that powershell free extension - its not available and you can find it in power shell pro extension. there is trial for 14 days and you can try it. have a look here and you will understand and will be able to get that option

@ironman software I can't do the same thing you have done in this tutorial as I get the error "The document item has no code-behind file. Add a code-behind file and a class definition before adding event handlers." Can you assist with resolving this? I've tried to find a fix on the website and can't seem to find a solution but other people have had the same issue.

Real programmers use dark themes! ... Joke aside, if I'm just looking for an easier way to design GUIs, how is this better than the free alternative in Visual Studio's own form designer? $99 per year (The Visual Studio Code bundle) is a bit costly for my projects, but I am interested.

no, this won't work on a linux based OS because the presentation framework is windows specific
@abrahamalaniz34683 жыл бұрын
@@BasvanEtten that's a lie, and you should know that. Powershell core, or to be more exact, .Net Core supports Linux based products to include Ubuntu. With that said, it has wpf support. Please don't spread false information.

But like in debug mode in Visual Studio, what if you don't everything to shut down when your ps1 script terminates, so you can read whatever output it produced. How do you do this. If I run a script that does something like write-host 'hello' . A window flashes on the screen and the process terminates and I don't see its output anywhere

at 2:50 you want to create an Event Handler 'Click' for the Button, but my VS2019 says that there is no Codebehind File or Class is attached to the WpfWindow1.xaml. It didn't see the ps1 File as the codebehind for the xaml. How can I fix this, or is this a problem of the current release 5.7.17
