What a fun record of a very productive first year for Isla! What a beautiful life she has. It’s amazing how much she has already accomplished. Her enjoyment of the process shines thru. You do a terrific job of keeping her motivation high. I was most impressed to see her quietly waiting her turn in the middle of the agility ring while another dog had a run at it. You’re an amazing trainer-so well-practiced and clear in your goals and communication. Hats off to you and Isla!

Wonderful! What a great example and model to pattern myself after! I wonder, with such thoughtful and intentional puppy rearing, is it possible to significantly reduce the Icelandic sheepdog’s barking tendency? It seems that with so much attention to socializing the pup to novel situations, the pup may not feel the need to alarm bark as often. And with calm training, the tendency to bark when working may be reduced. Do you think so? Thank you for sharing this!

What a beautiful and smart pup. I could watch your Isla series of videos over and over. What happened to her?

Thank you for the kind words. She had a colon hemorrhage that made her septic and she passed within 24 hours of symptoms appearing. Unfortunately a necropsy didn’t reveal any strong answers for what caused it. She was 20 months when she passed, we miss her every day.

How sad. We lost our 14 year old Shiba three years ago. We still miss her every day. It is never easy losing a loved one. So, sorry for your loss. Keep up the good work. The world needs more positive trainers. I hope to one day be half the trainer you are.

Did those pass? My understanding of the rules is you have to show where your dog is and handler has to be in video all the time.

They did pass, but this was also taken more than two years ago. So very possible they have tweaked the rules since then

@@gabriellevannini3464 Video Requirements Train at your own pace, and video when you feel prepared. After you have a video of what you feel to be a passing run, upload the clip to KZbin or Vimeo. The video should be continuous - ie/ your walkthrough should be followed by the time it takes you to get your dog, and then your run including the final “yes” call and reward time. All entries require three elements: 1. Course walkthrough - including start line and hide location, as well as distractor locations 2. Hide type - verbal and visual verification, can be shown in course walkthrough 3. Run video - including behaviour at the start line I emailed and they said handler had to be seen all the time too.

@@gabriellevannini3464 the only ones I can find are like yours. We did AKC video Scentwork and had to show dog hidden, then item being hidden then dog searching but I didn't have to be in sight.
