Why are we even doing this

Norma is an incredible asset to our city and community! I met her while she was meeting with our city council representative to encourage the building of a community center in our neighborhood. She attended the elementary school my kids attend and where I have worked. I invited her to talk with our students and she readily agreed. Our students benefitted so much from hearing about her resilience and the obstacles she has overcome. She inspired so many students because she had been in their shoes. It was an incredible experience for so many of our kids to know she had been in their shoes, had faced challenges they are facing, and even had come from a non-English speaking home like many of them do. Her stories about not giving up and following her dreams had many in tears, including me. I am confident she made a lasting impact on many students in our next generation of leaders. I am confident she will continue to do great things for the city of Wichita.
